Since we have a topic for the worst fanfics, I figured that I create a similar topic for the best ones we’ve read.

But the Kitchen Sink is a hilarious MLP fanfic that has Rainbow Dash falling in love with a sink and the lengths she goes through to see it again. It’s even better when you hear the audio readings on YouTube as the reader always ends up laughing hard once they get to the ending which is the best part of the story. I won’t spoil it here but it is completely out of the left field.

Bride of Discord is another MLP fanfic that is really good and takes a lot of inspiration from Beauty and the Beast.

I really want to answer this tread but 90% of the fanfics I read aren’t appropriate for this site lol. My favorite one is a very popular Hannigram one. If you know then you know there (or you can ask me, idc). My partner said they swear it could have been written about me. Yeah pretty much.

Edit: a funny one I remembered is that someone rewrote one of the Harry Potter books to include Gordon Ramsay, full cooking contest scenes and stuff and it was 99 chapters so they didn’t cheap out. That was fun.

I don’t remember the name of it, BUT…it was a Castlevania one about Leon Belmont’s time as a knight, and his friendship with Mathias. It was well-written, and I remember enjoying it very much.

Magic and Mystery/Coil by Allegory_for_Hatred, hands down. I'm not a HP fan at all, never found the series interesting. It's an extremely popular fic on ao3, and honestly it deserves it. It's a Bungou Stray Dogs (pre-15 Dazai) x Harry Potter ff. I really enjoyed reading it, and the quality of the writing was amazing. To be honest, when it was still in the progress of being updated, I was hooked on waiting for a new chapter every Wednesday (?). They covered the first two years in Hogwarts in two books (first was 55 chapters long, second was 33 but with even longer word counts), but they discontinued the series. There's a ton of fan continuations of it, and they're all pretty good, but I can keep up with all of them, so at the moment I'm reading little_coffin's one. These books single-handedly increase my vocabulary and fluidity of language (though that probably doesn't come across in my comments lol)

Another one of my favourite fanfictions was Animosity by octaviusthejellyfish, also on ao3. They deleted it after 8 or 10 chapters, unfortunately. I do have it downloaded (with permission!) so that's a plus. It's a Bungou Stray Dogs x BNHA fic. Really good story, I wait in vigilance for the day they bring it back out, if they ever do. They did say they might re-release it, but I don't really think that will happen. Who knows! Author comes first though, so whatever they're most comfortable with is the most important.

Yet another BSD x BNHA one is This School Increases my Urge for Arson by aoibb. It's still receiving updates, and the story is enjoyable! It focuses on Chuuya, so that's fun.

There's plenty more that I really enjoy, hopefully I can remember the names! But I recommend all of these.

Wait what do you know what site this is on (asking for a friend, definitely)?

@lasagne_of_death Just search “Harry Potter and The Lack of Lamb Sauce” on Ao3 :) I’m in the same boat as you with that series but I remember I even drew fanart for that one lol. It’s not like the quality blew me away, but there was a clear effort and I just like that it exists.

I had attempted to make a Harry Potter crossover series with Pokémon but it became too difficult to write given the book series was only on the fifth book and there kept being changes needed to be done which ruined my vision of where the entire series plot was going. Harry was going to have a Teddiursa that he had a telepathic connection with and the ability to share dreams in a way that was different from Voldemort. This connection was only present while either asleep or around powerful Psychic Pokémon like the Lati duo or Mew. Order of the Phoenix basically ruined my entire fanfic and Half Blood Prince just made things even worse and so I gave up rough drafting the idea into notebooks. One thing I did like was that Teddiursa was very protective of Harry to the point the Dursleys were afraid of it and became much nicer to Harry because all the Pokémon had to do was simply growl and hold its paw up in the air as if it was going to scratch them. It was never going to actually attack them but the Dursleys didn’t know that.

I think I shared this before but I will absolutely never get over that one Genshin fanfic about Scaramouche & Lumine — Sorry for your Loss by ashvanya. I didn't even ship them before, just stumbled upon it while browing another pairing, and I was curious so I peeked — and I eventually finished it in one sitting lol. Read a good number of fics here and there, mostly plot driven which is nice and all, but this one was just really well written down to the symbolisms, plot twists, foreshadowing, and everything in between. It was so juicy seeing the payoff for all the foreshadowing and being like "oh my god I can't believe they were alluding to THIS the entire time". Plus it combines every single genre I love in a fanfic: angst, slow burn, enemies to lovers. Bonus if it's modern setting. Be warned though, there are plenty of curse words in the fic (but not hastily written of course).

Scaramouche wasn’t sure what was worse: the previously unbearable giggles and coos from his roommate’s door, or the current mess of Childe hunched over his third bottle of tequila. The couple self-imploded as often as his patience for them snapped, and Lumine was always a step out the door before he could yell at them to shut up.

He didn’t owe the man a damn thing with all the stupid mushy **** he had to put up with before the seemingly final break-up. So when Childe asks if he can talk to her for him, all he can do is scoff and turn on his heel.

So why is he hoping he’ll run into her anyway?

“You never liked me,” Lumine says, deadpan.
“Truly, nothing escapes you,” he replies wryly. “Which may actually be the singular thing I like.”

There's another that I like, Linger on your Pale Blue Eyes by retrograding. It's another Genshin fanfic about Scaramouche and Mona, very beautifully written with an interesting story. I think it got discontinued so it was never finished, which was a shame because the writing style is absolutely exquisite. More of angst/comfort, slow burn, modern setting. I highly recommend the read if you don't mind the cliffhanger as it was never done; the writing is an experience in itself.

(Just a warning that there is mature content in it, just a very few, so read at your own risk.)

She smiles, watching the reflection do the same. And when she puts on her makeup, she looks stunning: a porcelain doll ready for display.

Mona’s a small girl. On stage, she gets swallowed by stage fright, her steps shaky and her movements timid. She tips her toes to adjust the mic stand, and tries to stay in the shadows. But when she sings:

–she’s whole, she’s the solar system, and then she’s the universe: she holds the small world of Angel’s Share on her palm, twirling these shadows around her fingers as she rolls out the notes off the tip of her tongue, the vibrato whole and supple, her voice running like a silk thread. Unstoppable, divine, all eyes and ears on her as she manifests her true self–her ideal self–in a world where nobody knew her worries nor saw the anxieties in her eyes, in which they only knew her by the sound of her voice or the shape she takes in as she, too, hid in the red-black lights and the deep dark shadows, but they are entranced nonetheless.

(Someone, specifically, in the audience got this message loud and clear. He’s addicted to her voice as an addict would be. Whisky in his hand, his soul on hers.)

This one fanfiction that I read a very long time ago, it was a story that involved a massive crossover of Western cartoon & Anime characters, Real life actors, Live action movie characters, singers, video game characters competing in a contest. I believe it was based off a movie, but with these characters in it. I remember enjoying this thing a lot, mainly because a lot of my favorite characters were present in the story but they never interacted with one another; but it was so exciting to see them in it and some others that I recognize. Which was almost pretty like everyone.

I read the older version of the story, but there's a newer one that is online (from 2005??). I cannot remember the name unfortunately.

Fun fact: I actually printed this entire story out on paper and put it in a binder when I was reading it back then. lol

For more recent fanfics, they were just shipping fanfics from South Park. The ones I read were pretty well written, there's one I'm hoping the author come back and finish. It's so good.
