Beau or Erik and help with other decisions

While Beau is my ride-or-die because he's the absolute cutest, both he and Erik are very similar and I don't think you'd be disappointed with either. That being said, as someone also going for that natural/cottagecore vibe, Beau seems to be one of the quintessential villagers for that theme because he shows up in basically every cottagecore island tour I see. And for good reason, too. He's adorable! I also agree with Bioness, in that Erik's better for a winter feel and Beau is better for a mountain/forest feel. Both are great, but I'd pick Beau considering he's probably a better fit for your theme.

Between Gonzo and Wolfgang, while I love the latter, Gonzo definitely fits the theme more with his house interior being more cabin-like. I also quite like his design and that whole "grumpy old man in retirement" thing sounds amazing and I'm all for that.

I have Beau in my cycling town right now and I just caught him singing...cutest thing ever! Does anyone know if Erik ever sings?

I think Beau is my only villager I *haven’t* seen sing. It’s probably RNG, but I think he’s the only one I haven’t seen play any of the instruments I have near the plaza either. I’ve never seen him exercise either (I’ve seen 8/10 villagers exercise at some point). I think I’ve only seen him do nature stuff.

Still, he’s great, but I’m sure Erik would be too! Beau’s vibe is the sleepy look and Erik seems more alert, if that factors in at all.

Personally I think Erik fits better if you want to be as “thematic” as possible. If you don’t mind spending time hunting for him, you could always try to get him as your starter Lazy—that way he comes with the default log cabin interior, which matches your town and his original house from NL perfectly. The chances of getting him aren’t bad if you already have the Normal and Peppy invited.

Also, my vote is for Gonzo. I agree with people saying he’s more natural than Wolfgang, and don’t think him being Australian detracts one bit. Koalas are still woodland animals after all.



I can just add that I’ve had Beau for over a month and have never once seen him sing. Your odds of either of them singing is equally likely—or unlikely, really.

Thank you very much. The singing comment helps tremendously. I was very much leaning towards Erik until I saw Beau singing. So it definitely helps knowing it was just a very rare occurrence.

I do prefer the default lazy interior for Erik, so I'll island hop for him as a starter. If for some reason after that I still can't stop thinking about Beau I may consider him, but I have a feeling I'll be too attached to Erik by then.

I'm 100% sure about Gonzo at this point. I'm completely in love with the old man retiring and moving to a new continent backstory, and I'm attached to the parallels between him and my grumpy Aussie fiance, lol. I had seen someone else wanting Gonzo for their forest island and there was a comment that said something along the lines of "Gonzo is on the wrong continent and doesn't really fit the theme." I don't know why I let that get to me.

I considered Apollo for my cranky too, and I really like him... but I don't really care for his interior so I decided against it.

Erik over Beau. Both are fine, but Erik is cuter. I think you should just puck whoever you find first. Also, I would much prefer Wolfgang over Gonzo, but again, go with whoever you see first. Villager Recommendation: Maple.

After seeing the photos again, I would go with Erik and Gonzo, but if Wolfgang really speaks to you go with him. After all, it is YOUR island.

I love Maple and she would fit great, but my friend has her and I'm trying to avoid repeating villagers between us.
