Banded Dragonfly glitch.

Anyone else have this or something similar with another insect or fish?

I've now caught about 4 banded dragonflys. And every time I do I get the "YES!" text from my character as if this is a new insect I've never caught before.

Nothing else is off about it. If I take it to Blathers he'll tell me how he already has one in the museum. If I check my criterpedia the banded dragonfly doesn't have the red dot that indicates it's a new catch.

But I just caught another one a few minutes ago and it did the "YES!" thing again. Lol how odd.

Hasn't happened with any other fish or insect.

I don’t get “Yes!” but I do get “I DID IT!” every time which is supposed to happen.

I may be wrong but I think the same thing happens when you catch a coelacanth.

I think that "I did it!" just signifies that you caught a rare, difficult-to-catch fish/bug.

That's also my thought. I don't consider the banded dragonfly a rare bug though

Yes this happens with the stringfish, colecanth,dorado, whale shark, etc. Your character will exclaim 'Ohmygosh!' or 'I did it!" when you catcah something hard to catch/rare. The banded dragonfly is the fastest bug in the game and will also fly away from you so I think thats why it a challenge to catch

I think that's just the predetermined text for catching that insect, rather than something unintentional.

Yeah if it's a really rare fish/bug it does do that "Yes!" quote. Congrats on catching so many!

It sells for 4500, so that's something to celebrate though I don't consider them particularly rare either. inb4 Nintendo nerfs their spawn rates too

It's not a glitch...it's the actual text that accompanies a catch. It's because the banded dragonfly is really fast, and rather difficult to actually catch. It's also the highest valued flying-insect (there are more valuable beetles and things...but the banded dragonfly is the most valuable of the butterflies, moths, and dragonflies).

Ah ok. I had noticed that you always got the "Yes!" text whenever you caught something new so I assumed this was a glitch. I hadn't noticed that the "Yes" also appears for rare species on every occasion you catch them.

And yeah I figured out the banded dragonflys weakness. Cliff sides. You can kind of run them directly into one and they are forced to stop and turn around. During this time you can snag them.

It’s similar, for the coelacanth it’s “BLAST FROM THE PAST!” And then the rest of the info on what you caught on the next dialogue box. In NL, you got similar for the golden stag, whale shark, and petal tail dragonfly (which I think is gone and banded dragonfly fills that slot).

Yeah, having a special extra message when you catch a rare bug/fish was in New Leaf, too. I kind of miss the one for the coelacanth in that game.
