What is your favorite era in history?

What do you think about science fiction?

What is your favorite era in history?
I am interested in learning more about history in other countries outside of the American perspective, but such books I have my eyes on are expensive so I do not get them as often as I prefer. From such books I have gotten, I noticed a fixation on labor history around the 1800s to 1900s; e.g., Lysa Hong's The Scripting of A National History: Singapore and Its Pasts, Seungsook Moon's Militarized Modernity and Gendered Citizenship in South Korea, and Els Witte, et al., Political History of Belgium: From 1830 Onwards. These books helped me realize how Belgium, Korea, and other countries resemble the States (or vice versa) in regards to classism and unfettered capitalism, and form the bulwark of my social democratic outlook.

In regards to American history, I am particularly interested in the Great War from the perspective of revisionist historians who take it as a turning point in America when populist agrarian tradition was trampled under a permanent boot by a growing police state; e.g., Walter Karp's Politics of War: The Story of Two Wars Which Altered Forever the Political Life of the American Republic (1890-1920). I am also interested in the viability of socialist and left-leaning parties in the lead up to the Second Great War, and how greater reformist tendencies by a weaker, more desperate centralized American government ironically stifled their growth; e.g., Howard Zinn's Postwar America: 1945-1971 and Seymour Martin Lipset and Gary Wolfe Marks' It Didn't Happen Here: Why Socialism Failed in the United States.

What do you think about science fiction?
Science fiction stories and concept artwork formed the bulwark of my inspiration as a child for getting into book-reading and writing for fun. In fact, my first short stories were science fiction. Also, the science fiction novel, Frank Herbert's Dune, remains one of my favorite stories.

Thanks for the questions!

Have you ever had Kewpie Mayonnaise?
I believe Hellman's is the brand of mayonnaise I am most likely to use, as it is ubiquitous here in the States.

To answer your question, no; I had to look it up. It seems that, for mayonnaise, Kewpie would be to the Japanese what Hellman's is to the Americans. I find it interesting that Kewpie's use of rice vinegar instead of distilled vinegar makes for a smoother and creamier mayonnaise, and makes me curious to try new kinds of mayonnaise.

Thanks for the question!

Also, nice new signature!

Whats your favaourite song? except darude sandstorm, of course. (im so sorry)
Although the name did not ring a bell, when it started playing I recognized the sound. Surprised by all the dislikes for Darude's 'Sandstorm;' though I do not much care for the song, seems much of the dislike is fueled by the song being ubiquitous, or at least people being 'bombed' with it like Rick Astley's 'Never Gonna Give You Up.'

That said, it is hard to choose a favorite song, so I will just select one I have been listening to quite a bit recently: '1963' by American adult alternative singer-songwriter Rachael Yamagata.

I was not sure how to explain scientifically why I like this song, but when I plugged it into the radio streaming service Pandora it chose a similar song because it 'features basic rock song structures, a subtle use of vocal harmony, mild rhythmic syncopation, mixed acoustic and electric instrumentation and acoustic rhythm piano.'

Yeah, what they said. In my own words, though, it sounds upbeat without being 'oh-my-glob!' pop, if that makes any sense. Even more, it sounds more like something I would hear live at a classy club with a name like 'Madison Club' or 'The Regal Beagle.' Heh, all of a sudden Three's Company and Billy Joel come to mind, though only the latter seems particularly relevant at the moment.

And not surprised the similar song was one by Sara Bareilles, who I can listen to all day.

Thanks for the question!

Maybe I should display my gold super mailbox instead of that light blue letter collectible.

Hey, Smaug, bet you feel confident for taking the Dwarf stronghold of Erebor, but they were led by a chump. I ain't going to be distracted by jewelry when you come breathing that hot air, so you better think twice about attacking my parcels.

Do you like Eminem? If so, what's your fave song?
I have not listened to Eminem recently, but I have listened to a few of his songs, and even watched 8 Mile. The song that comes to mind right away is the one with Rihanna, 'The Monster,' which I would say is my favorite.

Thanks for the question!

where did your username come from?
One of the fellow administrators for my personal forum had a friend who used 'Zulehan' as his user name at another forum. I thought it sounded and looked cool, so I started using it without his permission. I am surprised by how obscure the source of the word is; did Google searches and so far the results are irrelevant. Anyways, mm... I think this was back in 2000 or even earlier. My forum was called 'Anime Visions' (now it is 'The Infinity Program'), and the forum the friend was on was equally obscure.

It has been so long I had to look it up, but once I got the song playing: a definite yes. (Long time since I heard Dido's voice.) Anyways, thanks for reminding me about this song.

Thanks for the questions!

How has your week been?
Getting into the rhythm of a new semester. I believe next week will be even more relaxing since I will be starting my tutoring, so no more guesswork about schedules, materials, introductions, etc.

Hope your week has also been decent.

Thanks for asking!
