Are Violent Videogames linked to violance in Children?

I don't remember being able to buy M rated game by myself before I turned 18. Do you have to be a certain age to be able to buy these games or what? I still think it's an effect system...at least it lets you know if the game contains things that you wouldn't want your kid to see or something.
In england if a child tries to buy a game above its age they are shot.

In Soviet Russia GAMES BUY YOU!!!!
(i just heard thoose jokes on Family guy so yea)

I agree. It just annoys me when people take it too far. I have a friend who's 14, and can't play T games. :/
Really, I think M games aren't that bad either. There's nothing in M games that you haven't already been exposed to via the public school system. =P

My ex couldnt buy 15s till he was 17.
He blamed his late puberty xD

If it serves no other purpose, it's best as a "we told you so" kind of deal. Before Mortal Kombat(and while it was out for awhile), there was no rating system and so there was something of a legit reason to blame games for violence...that being that kids had complete access to these sort of violent games.

Now, there is no real excuse...if it says "M" and you don't trust your kid could handle it, then don't get it. If you think your kid is responsible and mature enough, let em play it.

I've never even seen a game rated Ao....does anyone know of such a game?
Manhunt was slated to be AO before they tweaked it.
I can't really think of one that has been, actually.

MY little cousin is in 3rd grade, and I introduced him to video games when he was little, and he started playing shooting games like call of duty. now he wants guns and he wants to murder the people he doesnt like.

He is for his age. Hes the tallest and the smartest in math. I'm proud but I can't help thinking its my fault he acts this way. Me and him are really close, he's kind of like a mini-me except for the murderous/violent nature.

Welp, I mentioned that prior. I don't deny the fact that a kid could really be influenced and get ideas from a game to commit violent acts, but I'm always going to say that they weren't able to buy them in the first place and so superiors should be blamed, not the game, itself.

To put it into perspective: don't go into a toxic waste plant, roll in a vat of dangerous liquid and then blame the plant that you're gonna die. People do these kinds of things all the time...just not rolling around in toxic waste. >.>

I loved how much of a fuss that game kicked up xD
also the one where your shooting aliens inside a famous Church and the christians went NUTS

Here's the thing I don't think violent games can make you any more violent than you already are. You distinguish what is real and fake if you are normal. The reason people try to link it is because they want something to blame, and let's face it if you have a violent side you are going to want to play these games more than the nonviolent ones. Really when you look at it, those who end up committing violent crimes are the ones who feel less accepted, or have some sort of mental instability. Video games don't cause this and in fact can sometimes help someone who has social problems.

I dont think this is a fair thing to say.

Children go through Phases, simply started by things they see as 'Entertaining' and 'Fun'. This 'Violence' is simply a phase and will not last long if he is introduced to another game he might like (so think of something he enjoys instead of shooting (there must be something.) So yeah it simple :3
