Nope but i went out of my way to invite 2 favorites from previous installments. Chevre was in ACWW and Willow in ACCF. Very happy to have both of them in my town now. I can't imagine cycling through 16 villagers thoughh..with my luck i'd lose a few dreamies

I had Cole for a while in my first town, he moved in about 2 months after I got the game, now he's one of my starting villagers in my second town.

I've had Chief and Muffy before, Chief was lost due to a time travel accident.
However, I managed to complete the 16 villager cycle to get him back. I plan on giving away Muffy once she moves for the second time.
