Even if they are classified as sassy, they are not truly sassy!

Are there villagers who have attitude throughout! or grumpy?

Yes, Dierdre and Wendy.

Dierdre was rude to me character behind her back. Literally all I did to her was ask her to sign a petition, then left. Later my sister (Dierdre lived in her town) said that she called me a waffle hanger and such. Wendy was the same excact story. Both of them ended up moving to my old town. Deirdre stopped being rude to my face; Wendy however, did not. Wendy would call me rude and ugly to my face. I was so glad when she decided to move out.

Even the snooty and cranky villagers have always been friendly for me, I don't think there will ever be a character who's super rude in animal crossing since it's a kids game that's intended to be happy and such, except for Phillis, she sucks lol

I have purrl and portia in the same town. They are both so nice to me.
I had chief and wolfgang in me WW town but they left. They were nice but they both would say "What the heck do you want, (catchphrase)?" i know it is a line that programed in the game, i still kinda makes me mad in a way

I've always felt that some villagers are coded to use certain lines of dialogue from their personality type more than others, making them seem nicer or meaner. Maybe it's just dependent on friendship, but I swear I can have two villagers of the same personality in my town but never have the same conversations with them. I wouldn't say any of them are outright nasty, though.

No not really. Sometimes the cranky get attitude when they get angry and stomp around but villagers in the gamecube version use to literally insult you and that will probably never happen again which is unfortunate because that's what I want.

Ok I have the GameCube version but never played it a whole lot and was younger when I did, I need to be insulted by villagers though that sounds amazing

Yes, Blanche. She was one of my originals and so rude, I didn't understand why they'd even include that in the game (now I do though, it's fun to have these different personalities) and I tried all the tricks to get her out. The tricks didn't work, so I was happy when she decided to move out on her own.

Is it bad I never really understood why some people want the meaner villagers from GameCube back? I’ve played the GameCube AC and it’s super off putting to me when one of my villagers insults me to my face

Idk its just kinda funny and it diversifies the personalities of the characters in the game. We have 8 villager personalities and they're all just so plain nice that we might as well just have the same dialogue set for each villager type.

The worlds changed since 2002 though. A lot of people arent amused by harsh words from video game animals anymore. That's why Resetti got nerfed as well.

Honestly, I really would like the snooty and cranky villagers to be more rude than they are. I just think it would add a fun little part to the game where you have to work really hard to befriend them. I completely understand why they don’t have that in the game anymore, since it’s a kids game and the world has changed a lot. I get why people don’t like to be insulted, but I think it’s funny. And if they slowly become nicer that would be a cool challenge.

Yeah, I haven't really experienced any rude villagers in New Leaf. Even the cranky and snooty villagers start off so friendly now. I miss when you actually had to work to befriend them. I didn't mind the insults because it just made me try harder, but even if they had to get rid of that, there's still a middle ground they could have tried to hit.

Now, I will say that when Pashmina visited my house, she had some dialog that was slightly off-putting. But still nothing compared to the old days. And it's funny because even though I've had several uchi villagers in my house after Pashmina, I have never seen that dialog again. I can't even remember exactly what she said anymore, but at least it gave her some personality.

Rasher doesn?t say bad things to me, but his actions speak louder than words. How do you think he got all those scars?

He ruined my first town in new leaf to the point I restarted.... I want to say I was trying to get tangy and he moved in due to having some random person visit my town and he hitched along. Delete this mechanic for switch crossing. Please and thank you

I've never actually had a truly rude villager anyone thats like grumpy or snooty or stuff like that has always been nice to me

Different strokes for different folks. I think half the stuff the Snooties and Crankies in that game come out with is hilarious. I'm in the camp that I'm more off-put by everyone being super saccharine sweet from the start. It's kinda creepy. If my third ever conversation with some person I met irl was 'wow, my house is so much better with you inside of it!', I'd leave and never go back tbh. But that's normal in ACNL.

In general, though, I don't think it'd be that bad to bring the meaner villagers back, but combine their rougher starting attitude toward the player with the more robust friendship system from NL. The main problem in the original game was that no matter how many jobs you did or how many letters you wrote, they'd never really stop insulting you. It goes from 'you're mean on the outside but I bet deep down you're nice' to 'you are just an awful person through and through' real quick.

Not in New Leaf, all the personalities seem super watered down imo. The cranky villagers don't even act cranky, they act like your dad from the beginning. I'll admit I was a bit turned off by the extreme GameCube personalities the first time I played the game (probably because I wasn't expecting it), but now I find them hilarious. Animal Crossing used to be so charming and real, but now it's just...idk, cutesy. Which is fine, it's just different. Like other people said, there's probably no way the Gamecube personalities would fly nowadays, but I think Wild World was a good mix of not straight-up insulting you (95% of the time) but not watered down.

i miss the days of gamecube ac where i could talk to a wolf and get compared to week old spaghetti

I can't say I had any mean villagers in any of the towns I've owned. Hearing everyone else talk about the GameCube version kinda makes me want to play it, even though I never got the chance to. I would like to see how bad or good it really was. Personally, I don't think the characters are TOO watered down, but when I started playing my Wild World game again just recently, I did notice a bit of change. I really don't know though. Perhaps I'm playing the game too fast to notice. Maybe they could have a little more personality to the villagers. Especially the dialogue, but no, I never really had a mean villager.

Elise. That Mole-Monkey gets on my nerves.

Rod has been one of my favorite villagers since Wild World, but she always used to pick on him in my city folk town. I was so happy when I finally was able to boot her outta town.

I can't recall any villagers being "rude" to me in New Leaf. Snooty and cranky villagers were pretty mean in GCN, and they made the occasional snide remark in WW and CF from what I remember.
