Are mom's items pre-determined?

This is something I'm curious about and I apologize if it's already been answered!
I've seen a lot of threads selling multiple types of mom's items, such as aprons. I'm mostly wondering HOW--I've gotten plenty of aprons in the mail from mom (campsite trick'll do that to ya.) and every single time, they're the exact same kind, and because it's a clothing item you can't customize it. Are there specific times she sends specific types of an item, or is it pre-determined for you?

Yes you'll have the same item if you stay in year 2020.

But if you TT ahead, you'll obtain a different item each new year.

The only non-customizable objects are the apron, the sweater, the backpack and the kitchen rug.

if you want other variations without switching years or trading, multiple town islanders (player characters) will get different variations

like my main islander got the chocolate cake and white flower knapsack but my second islander got the cat cake and cherry blue knapsack.

Thank you both for the info! Good stuff to know. How long does it take a new islander to receive that mail from mom? I made a new one to test this out. It's been a few days and so far the only mail I've gotten is the 2 from Nintendo, and the one you get from mom right when you start out.

Good to know! I kept time traveling back and forth to try the campsite method a while ago and I kept getting the same exact colored mom items and thought I was just really unlucky xD

Yeah if you keep TT over and over again to kick villagers out (like I did) you end up with a lot of the same items (aprons, plushies and other things you don't know what to do with).
