Aokigahara is a forest in Japan, on the base of Mt. Fuji. It is said to be formed after Mt. Fuji erupted and all the lava dried up and trees grew upon it. It is very rocky and there are many caves in the forest. The forest is also said to be very quiet, not a thing can be heard. This forest is most known for suicides. Every year, hundreds of people attempt to kill themselves in the forest, and the amount of people who commited suicide in the forest stopped getting announced from the government as a way to stop the suicides. There's also some documentaries done in the forest.

How do you feel about Aokigahara? Would you like to visit the forest?

Discuss!

I'd like to visit out of pure fascination and curiosity but at the same time I don't because it's kinda sad.

me as well. I know that there's actually going to be a horror movie based on it.
I watched a documentry about it and it was pretty sad :/

I would visit out of pure curiosity as I read up on this before, though I find it sort of sad to turn a tragic location into a horror movie :' O?

I would wanna visit and then get lost in the forest.

I got nothing to lose.

I really love nature and tranquility.

And there's other souls there too, which makes me feel connected to other people as I am sort of telepathic and have an interest in that kind of stuff.

True. It's kind of sad that they profit out of that too.

It's a place where people come to die, and you should respect that.

i've heard a lot about this forest, and i'd honestly like to visit. as sad and tragic as it may be, it's beautiful in it's own way.

ahh, the suicide forest. Why would the local Japanese just burn it? It's truly torture, it claims many lives every year because they get lost in the forest and if you are a ranger that lives near there, you will have to bring back any bodies you find and sleep with it.

I wouldn't mind visiting, as long as I don't find a corpse or anything. Sounds interesting.

This is why the Earth will have no more trees and beautiful historic places.

Project Zero / Fatal Frame: Maiden of Black Water, which came out in October on the Wii U (eShop exclusive), is based on The Suicide Forest. Those of you who are fascinated by this might want to check the game out - it's really good.

Ah I'd love to check it out, sounds fascinating, I guess I love exploring and going on walks and checking out new places. Though I'd rather not go alone, probably with someone I can trust and am really close to.

I've watched and read a few things about this forest, I don't think I would ever like to visit it.
I think making a movie there is in bad taste.

I wouldn't visit it because it would probably provoke a lot of emotion inside of me. It is so sad, we shouldn't glorify such a location as to make a film about it... There's nothing wrong in visiting the place, though, to pay your respects... At least, that's what I think. :( It's so sad.

I would love to visit and go and see if I could connect with the spirits there, I doubt there would be any negative ones, I am sure it would just have a sad eerie vibe and I would like to comfort the spirits if possible. I am also a huge lover of forests as well, perhaps I would bring some offerings like flowers or something for the poor spirits there.

Oh yeah.. I never really thought about it that way. :(

Spooky forests aside, I think it's just inhuman to glorify or use that place as a location to film or to glorify it in games.. It's terrible. I still stick by my original statement, but I'd also like to pay respect to whoever died there. It's just too sadistic D:
