Anyone successfully coordinate a villager void pickup?

I'm in contact with someone online who has a villager in boxes that I want. I have a villager in boxes they want.
Is it possible for let's say me to void my villager. I go pick up their villager after TT one day and I have an open plot now. Then this person comes to my town, or I go to theirs, and just leave. They then TT to see if my voided villager arrives?
What are the downsides to this? Is it guaranteed that they will get my voided villager?
