I'm not touching 6 of them for sure, but 4 out of the 10 I'm so up and down about. Not because I don't like them (I amiibo'd them in) but I also like some other villagers of the same personality as well and would like to try having them.

I only started casually on NL so no nostalgic characters. And probably having all the amiibo cards gives me too much choice power. So worse case scenario is I miss someone and I just invite them back in.

What I'm doing is not really having dreamies in this game because I wanna meet lots of different villagers, especially since some of them look so much cuter to me in this game than in past ones with their models and the clothes they can wear. If someone wants to move and I feel like I've had them long enough for now then I'll let them, unless they're an absolute fave whose card I don't have (including new villagers since they don't have cards at all). Maybe years from now I'll settle on specific dreamies, but it'll be a while because hey, I'm literally still playing NL. Unless something goes incredibly wrong, NH is gonna last me some time.

A suggestion I have for you is maybe pick at least one of those 4 villagers you're not sure about and let them go, and then reserve that spot on your island for cycling through different villagers! Especially since you amiibo'd them in to begin with, and probably have other cards I bet you'd like to try out.

I don't want to have the same villagers in my town always. To me, that defeats the point of meeting new villagers and having a constantly changing town. That being said, I will probably have one or two villagers I just won't move out for a long while.

Long live random chance villagers!

Since this is my first AC game( I only played pocke camp for a hot minute) I really don’t know any of the villagers besides the ones on my island. So while I do have some favorites out of the ones I currently have that won’t be leaving anytime soon, I like switching the others out and trying out new villagers.

I think that's a nice way to play the game, honestly. Get to know random villagers you wouldn't have otherwise thought about and perhaps find a dreamie you didn't know you needed beforehand.

I've started a new island on a new Switch Light for various reasons and that's what I intend to do with this town. In fact, I'd like to just let them all come in naturally and not worry about searching Nook Miles Islands.

Well for my game I decided to go with some other villagers or at least with half of them. Like yeah I have my Dreamies and all, but it’s way better to get random ones. Otherwise I would never have experienced Groucho and Hopper and some other ones i missed out. Like I found Wade and Benjamin and wanted to invite them, but searched for someone else instead. But I’m sure once I get a free plot I might invite them and wait for my Filbert Amiibo to scan in later. There are actually some new lazies I found and want to try first.

Yeah it's a mix for me. I wasn't expecting to end up buying Melba's amiibo card but here we are. She's like the one actual dreamie for me just because she's been in my AC life for so long and everything about her is precious. Usually though my approach is to just see who comes in. I suppose you can fall in love with a villager just by looking at their pictures, or at least be curious about maybe having them for a little while, but I figure, how do you develop special bonds with specific villagers if you don't allow yourself to experiment a little? I definitely wouldn't have picked Ursala for my starter uchi if I had the choice, but now that I've had her, no regrets, she's the one.

I definetly have 10 dreamies picked out but if I meet someone cute on an island tour who is not on that list, I'll invite them and keep them on my island for a bit! I like meeting new characters and I know I'll be playing New Horizons for a long time so I'm in no rush to get my dreamies right away.

I agree that going to islands and seeing villagers was a little fun. I did once in the rain and saw a pink penguin in a hat and raincoat. I didn’t even recognize him but it ended up being Puck. It’s cool seeing some villagers now with this level of detail.

I kind of collect portraits, so I am always pretty bad about this. Other players often want permanent villagers, but I am usually willing to give up anyone whose portrait I already have. I enjoy having a rotating cast. -shrug-

I get bored if I have the same villagers for too long. I like every of my villagers! But I will let anyone leave, maybe except Flora. I am actually waiting for the day where someone will ask me to leave as I love to search for villagers. I don't like when the game fill a house for me, but I won't search for too long for a villager. After I get tired I just take one I don't hate lol (and I get tired after like 10 NMT).

ah I'm in the same situation, I have a complete amiibo set to chose from!
I do have villagers I want as permanents, but I'll most likely do that later on when I'm almost done with my island (which won't be for a while). I love meeting and having different villagers on my island, many of which I never would have considered! For example, Daisy's one of my favorites right now and I met her on an island trip!

the game is still very new and I would recommend going through different villagers first, it's a lot of fun! that way, when you do get your dream villagers, they're nice and fresh and won't get old! :)

When I was island hopping for Raymond I had tons of fun running into villagers! I knew of some of the more popular ones and ran into Bob, Rosie, Fauna, Maple, all the octos, and quite a few more. They were cool to see.

After my cataloging island is done I've been toying with the idea of having giveaways since the amiibo glitch is fixed now. So that would be interesting to see more villagers on my island.

I've probably got 30+ dreamies, have already let some of them leave, I want to meet a lot of villagers before settling down to the final 10, also found some new dreamies that I didn't like in past games, especially some of the sheep, I thought they looked awful in previous games, but in NH they look so cute.

Since you have amiibo, you can try more villagers without worrying about missing your old ones. One of things keeping me from letting some of my current faves go is that i dont have their amiibo cards yet.

I knew i was going to eventually get all the new villagers to move in since i wanted to get to know all these new ones instead of the other oldies. So far it's working out i never noticed Sherb has creepy music, Cyd is punk af, Judy actually isn't as Snooty as most snooties unless she just likes me and well Raymond just moved in so i have to wait to see if he's a carbon copy of the other smug Chadder o: Who act peppy lol

IJudy actually isn't as Snooty as most snooties unless she just likes me and well
I kinda feel this way as well. Have a second snooty, Tasha, on my island. They share dialogue but Judy comes off as very sweet. While Tasha isn't mean per say Judy on average has more of the "nice" lines. At least fron my experience.

Before I got the game I was sure I was taking my NL villagers to my island with me, I was miserable at the idea of starting relationships anew (that’s not to say I was also very excited for the game, I was able to feel both) because as far as I was concerned, these villagers were my friends, we already knew each other, we’d been neighbours for years. Anyway, I wanted to get them in as early as possible, but then by the time I’d got my first 5 villagers I realised I had made new friends, and that moving my favourite villagers in from NL wouldn’t make me happy after all. So I ended up doing the opposite, although Genji was a starter and a NL villager, I let him go, and I moved Lolly in with amiibo but it doesn’t feel right somehow so I’m letting her go too. In the meantime I have a few new favourites I’m keeping (Punchy is literally my new best friend) and a few I’m enjoying but will probably let move on in time. I have all my favourite amiibos (including my new favourites) so I know that if I ever regret letting them go, I’m covered, and I’m so enjoying the sense of freedom and discovery that I had early on in NL before I’d grown attached and wouldn’t let anyone move in or out!!
Also: before the game came out, I was only interested in Raymond as a new Villager because I liked his design, I thought maybe Reneigh but wasn’t sure. Now I have Audie (because I couldn’t stand the peppies this time around but I met her on someone else’s island and fell in love) and Dom (who I got while I was resetting my island and just knew I needed) and Raymond is actually just.. okay. I mean, I still like his design, but I’m not sure I can say I even love him, I think I’m just not a fan of smugs at all.

That’s very true. I have more amiibos than I don’t so it makes trying new villagers a little easier. It also influences a lot of my mystery island decisions.

I suppose I knew I'd be "floofy" (hehe funny word). So I never settled for 10 permanent ones. I have 38 dreamies, so I happily cycle through them. Of course I don't cycle rapidly or anything. I get attached to anyone who's living in my town, so I have a hard time saying farewell. But when the time does come when I'm finally ready to let someone go, I'll chose their replacement from my 38 favorites.
