Anyone else kind of regretting their map layout?

I like pretty much everything about my island except that my Resident Services is misaligned slightly to my airport dock and that I picked the two south facing river exits into the ocean. I came up with a solution I can settle on for Resident Services with terraforming, but I find myself growing really frustrated trying to recreate a river that accommodates my new plans and utilizes both ocean exits.

I have all of my permanent residents and like all the little things, so I don't want to reset (again) but it's hard. Anyone else ever feel this way about the stuff they can't change?

edit: definitely resetting. working on arrangements for my villagers and items to be held. thanks everyone! i think i'll be happier in the long run.

I did the first two times, but the third time... not so much. Nothing's ever perfect, you just need to learn to accept things how they are and eventually get use to it.

I ended up giving in and resetting partly due to the location of my resident services. After I unlocked terraforming, I realized just how badly I disliked the location of it. It was almost right on top of the airport, but off centered. I really struggled with decorating that area. I chose to reset because I figured "better now than later". I plan to keep this file for years and years, so I chose to address that issue while I was still in the beginning rather than waiting until I was months or years into my game and finally giving in then.

Thankfully I found a map I liked far more better than my old one, so I am really happy with my decision.

I did, that's why I resetted like 10 days ago and reworked my progress to current day.

Going in blindly you really don't know what to expect and what you desire. I learned that I hated two south river outlets and a messy map with broken rocks. It took me like two days to reset, but I was so lucky to get a good map with my airport color and native fruit of choice. I would have also liked roses as my native flower, but 2/3 is enough and all flowers will be available for purchase later on.

Personally I think it's best to reset for the things that you like. The placement of the future town hall is also very important. If you want to keep your save file for a long time, you should have a map you can get behind.

My Resident center is one tile to the left of lining up with my airport. It was frustrating because they were close enough to make it obvious but as I've decorated the space it doesn't stand out the same way anymore.

Regarding the rivers I have a south and a west exit so they didn't bother me but I still made two separate rivers out of them. My plans didn't accommodate a big river running through the center of town so I got rid of it.

I feel similarly. My RS is very off center, but enough to decorate the space. I mostly dislike the double south rivers and considered resetting for a few days until I got inspiration from others with a layout like mine. I feel like I’m too far along and attached to reset. I dislike my native fruit and native flowers but not enough to reset.

i wish i'd reset for bigger rocks on the beach and to have the secret beach be more to the left or right side instead of the middle. i wasn't paying attention to those things when i was choosing a map. i almost reset because i thought resident services was too close to the airport but i started to build a small town and i think it fits in perfectly.

Neither was I, to be honest. I figured I'd never use it. But the island I went with has the secret beach to the far right side. Decided to make it into the campground area.

I do. I just despise my community center location. That and I would love to have more of the stone slabs on the beach. I've seen islands that have a ton, so I'm not asking for too much lol. I'd restart, but I feel like I'm in too deep now. Haha

Thank you everyone for your input! I am considering resetting now if I can find someone to hold some of my villagers and my stuff. I think it'll make me happier in the long run, but I have to sit on it.

Well I don't time travel, so I wouldn't be able to hold your villagers, but I'd be happy to hold any items you want to keep if you end up deciding to reset

I might reach out to you later today then if I decide to reset to hold items. I can tip you too since it's likely going to be a lot and I feel bad

Yes. My secret beach is in a very inconvenient spot that I can't build ramps to without ruining how the cliffs look, my airport and resident services aren't aligned, I have weird boulder placement on my beaches (many of my rocks are clustered together, forming several extremely small "mini beaches"), my rocks are too small to build anything substantial on, like a cafe, and there isn't enough space between the airport and resident services for me to terraform or otherwise landscape anything really cool-looking. (But I'm sure I'll figure out something - I might just have to move some villager's houses).

I still love most aspects of my island, and I'd never reset because I'd lose my five dreamies my catalog, and my hybrids, but oh maaaaan the little tiny annoyances are really building up the more I try to landscape/decorate!

yes rlmao but it is mostly things i can change with terraforming, it is just tedious and hard to do it. i only reset once before deciding on an island, i could have been more patient and made better choices when it comes to certain permanent fixtures.

Wait, how many hours did you have in the game before you reset?

Probably too many since I made it all the way up to a few days into teraforming. But I knew I was going to constantly be bothered by the location of the plaza and eventually give in. I know myself too well in that regard. I have too much fun with this game and enjoyed even the beginning days so it wasn't too painful to reset. I'm happily almost caught up at this point, I'm getting my first camper tomorrow! ^-^

I reset a while back as well. The map i started with had too much cliff and was overwhelming to terraform all of it. Reset my game now knowing what i liked and didnt like about my old map.

I found quickly on the 1st day that I wanted the RS and airport to line up perfectly so I went with that, apples and an east exit.
I find it's better to find a map you really like instead of settle, because years down the line you may have the same feeling of wanting to reset, so better to do it early then in a few months when you still might have that lingering feeling.

This was always the case for me on NL—I hated having the town tree by the train tracks but the town was over half a year old. I reset anyways and the town I got after that I kept for 6 years.

Everybody is different though and I'm just speaking from my experience. Hope you find what's best for you
