Anyone else having issues when fighting on wi-fi? I just got my game yesterday and downloaded the update, however when I connect and fight the game goes so SLOW, yet when I spectate the game goes at a normal speed.

Alright, online matches do sometimes lag immensely for me as well, so maybe either yourself and/or one of the other players might have poor internet connection(s). Unless it's Nintendo's Server Maintenance Monday, in which some lag is to be expected.

As for spectate mode, relating to the high speed and little lag? Nintendo's just airing replays of fights that have already happened. While I have no definitive proof, I do remember spectating three highly-similar Shulk-VS-Jigglypuff fights. (Spoiler alert: JP wins all "three" times)

Hopefully that clears up a few issues relating to the server's selective lagging.

I know Zig has a lot of lag. If any of you in this thread are lagging, it's either because your Internet sucks or you're too far away from your router. A quick solve would be to buy the Nintendo Ethernet cable to connect your Wii U directly. I highly suggest it so you don't ruin the game for others.

I think it lags if one person has bad internet. So if it always lags for you, maybe you have bad internet.

I played with him before and don't remember lag.

Another thing to consider is other people using your internet at the same time. I never lagged with Thunder before but then it started lagging so much that it was impossible to play. And then he was like "oh yeah my brother was using Netflix." This is pretty much always the case for DSL too.

The reason why Smash lag is so much more noticeable is because if one person lags, it has to slow the game for everyone. Timing is too perfect / central to gameplay to do what most games do (where you'll see characters jumping around the screen.)

It's definitely not my Internet. My Wii U is right by my router, I have 150/30 Internet with 4ms to nearest server, and I only lag with Zig. I know I'm salty about it but I can't play any more tourneys if I am going to continually be matched against Zig.

Well it must be chance??

And maybe someone else was using his internet for TV, etc. while you were playing him.

He's pretty good though, so don't be too hard on yourself! He bopped me out of your bro's tournament too. :)

Also, I'm surprised you didn't join the 3DS tournament that's in sign-ups.
