I have been trying to get a camper to move in for 2 reasons, 1 Chief refused to get the I wanna move bubble and 2 I needed a sisterly for the last reaction(only personality I didn't have). Why must it be so difficult? I tried to move Tammy in but all she wanted to do was play games for clothes(I don't want your clothes) and when she did play a game to move in and I actually won she always picked the wrong villager to replace. I finally just gave up. This time I got Agnes and she was doing the same thing(don't want your diner uniform or your bidet, why did you bring a bidet camping?) I lose so many times and she picked the wrong villager like 4 times. I decided one more try and I'm done. Well for once I got lucky and she picked Chief, hallelujah! I really wish they would change it so we can at least pick who is replaced(it's hard enough getting to that point in the first place). I may never try to move in a camper again(unless it's a villager I really want).

I had this issue yesterday with Truffles. A friend wanted her and that's the only reason why I tried to get her to move in. She had 3 villagers to pick from and she kept watching to play games for items. Or when I ask her to move on she kept saying no.

Eventually I got her to move in, I think it took like 15 to 20 minutes of button mashing. It's just a correlation but I had good luck with other people picking the suits and colors for me instead of picking it myself.

I have had good luck and bad luck with this. Sometimes I've spent a 1/2 hour spamming the camper trying to get them to move in. Then sometimes, they'll finally agree only to kick out the one villager I really don't want to lose. Other times, it's been quick and easy. Phil played the card game right away to decide the move-in and I only had to pick the color of the card, so I had a 50% chance of guessing right and I did and got him to move in in less than 5 minutes. It's a weird system and I do get tired of the card games for their clothes. I guess for people who want to catalog all items, it might be neat to get a clothing item they didn't already have but it's still kind of tedious to me.

I haven't had the chance to move in a villager from the campsite yet because I've only had one visit me and they were definitely Not someone I wanted but from what I keep hearing on here it's such a pain to try and do that I'm kind of dreading having someone I actually want showing up haha

There's a trick you can do to choose WHO actually moves out. Basically what you do is: Make them agree to move in by begging or playing their mini games, and once they go to Resident Services to ask who they can talk to they will mention a villager, right?

So here is the trick long story short: Let's say the camper says "Resident Services told me Zucker is planning to move out", so here is the crucial part though, if you are unsatisfied with who they are suggesting you turn off the game right at that second. You don't finnish the conversarion or let the game autosave at that moment.

I do this until the one I want to move away comes up as a suggestion. I recommend you do this either when you just start the game, like, get Isabelle's newsfeed about someone is on the campsite and run there directly. Don't do anything else or you waste time and lose progress if it didn't auto-save.

Either that, or do everything you do daily and THEN visit the campsite after you saved or the game auto-saved outside of the tent.

Anyway, sorry for the spam :)

I've had mixed results. The longest so far for me was 3 hours of button-mashing for Flora and the shortest 20 minutes for Agnes. I just stick to the same colour/suit of card, and it helps immensely if there are multiple residents that you would be alright with moving out.

There was a similar thread a while back where another player button-mashed for 6 hours. x_x

I agree campers are for sure annoying and I haven't even had anything ridiculous yet. The two campers I invited weren't dreamies so I wasn't panicked, and they both immediately picked other villagers I was okay with losing. Even then the card games are the absolute worst, and some of the horror stories show how bad it can truly get (3 hours? 6 hours?!) The item spam wouldn't be so bad if the campers had unique items in this game, but no...

Oh god I remember trying to get Raymond to move in on my alt town (BF's switch) and it was horrendous because He always kept picking the villagers I DIDN'T want to move. The alt town was mainly for cycling villagers to give to other people.

From one of the campsite method guides, there's this, paraphrased: Every time you ask a villager to move in, there is a 45% chance they'll instantly reject, a 45% chance they'll challenge you to a card game of some sort, and a 10% chance they'll instantly agree.

I think that particular guide was updated after the official strategy guide for New Horizons came out, either that or the percentages were datamined. So that's annoying enough on its own, having such a low percentage rate of success as compared to ol' New Leaf. I guess it makes sense because you're asking them to uproot their home and come to a place they know little about, but at the same time, in practice it's kind of obnoxious, lol.

Then there's the random choosing of whichever villager they want to replace. But as someone said above, if you immediately exit the game when they pick the "wrong" villager, you can reload the game and try again. It's very time-consuming unless you get lucky.

Yes, I find the process more tedious than it needs to be. It took me almost an hour of trying to get Dom to move in.

i do! the only camper that i’ve ever managed to move in successfully (asides from the 1st one) was audie and thankfully it wasn’t too bad. however, i tried to move in pate a few months ago and oh my god?? i genuinely hope that i never get another dreamie in my campsite because that whole process is just,, so frustrating lmao

i do! the last camper that i tried to move in was pate and i gave up after 10-15 mins because god is that whole process so frustrating lmao
Lol, my last camper was Pate (who I now gave away idk why I wanted her) and I was lucky enough to get the instant agreement which I thought was insane but of course she wanted to kick out Raymond... then it took 30 minutes to get her to kick out Patty. Then I kicked out Pate 4 days later because I found Lily’s amiibo and I don’t like having more than one peppy.

Oh, it is a nightmare, first starts the card game, from just guessing the color to guessing the shape! Then numerous hitting the home button because it most likely chooses the wrong villager, and then begging them to play the card game again! Why do they make it so difficult!

Yeah it’s pretty frustrating and I get impatient with the process. I’d rather use amiibo tbh.

I've definitely spent over an hour getting a campsite visitor to pick one of 3 or 4 villagers. Not sure who it was anymore, but it was getting rather frustrating by the end. In my opinion, it's too slow. It can sometimes take like 10 minutes for a camper to even suggest replacing anyone.

I wonder what that's like for very young kids, or people who don't read up on the game mechanics in general. After all, they tell you very specifically that they won't be moving to your island, and if you don't know that you can just keep asking, I bet you'd never even manage to invite someone after your first visitor. It's not like you get a new chance every day...

I hate it too, especially if it takes forever to finally win the card game, only for the villager to pick then someone you don't wanna move out and you have to got through the whole progress again. For me, who is a very impatient person, this isn't fun at all and sometimes I could just walk out of the tent and give up. Then again, I'm actually happy when a favorite of mine shows up there, because I don't have to spend any NMT on island hopping to find them, so of course I ending up sitting hours on my Switch and try to invite that villager, even if I'm about to start screaming out of frustration. Overall, it's always a relief if you get a someone on the campsite who doesn't waste so much time on the card game and picks the right villager on the first try. 😅

I've actually never successfully moved in a camper, short of the first one they force you into. I always find they either pick the wrong villager or I can't pass their card game. I'm not willing to spend more than 30 mins/an hour trying to get them in, you know? I wish friends could come pick up villagers through the campsite because I've passed up on soooo many just because it was taking too long.

It kinda depends. I do hate trying to move in campers when I want them to pick 1 villager, and 1 villager only. Then I can easily spend more than an hour just spamming them with requests and trying to get them to pick the right villager.

It's a bit easier if you have more than 1 specific villager you wouldn't mind moving out. I've moved campsite visitors in that way and kinda enjoyed the process, it also usually didn't take more than 30 minutes. That's an okay-ish timeframe to me, after that I do tend to get annoyed at having to guess a card or them picking the wrong villager...
