You're not alone. I've pruned my Island but still the good beetles don't spawn as fast as I would like. It can get very tedious to wait and the darned basket gets full so fast. And then all the trips to Re-Tail...
I usually turn down the volume and put on a movie or TV show on my laptop and watch that while I do beetle hunting. It keeps me amused while scaring off the bugs.
Yea I'm not a big fan of bug hunting. Saw a post on here about which bugs will no longer be available after January and now I'm like jeez I have to go catch them!
I'm too impatient with my landscaping to deal with bug hunting, haha. But then again, them pwps/furnitures aren't going to fund themselves (at least, not at the pace I want it to be).
While fishing and diving are far duller and annoying for me than bug hunting, it doesn't really matter which activity is boring anymore. I'm just tired of dealing with the mean RNG giving the wrong critters rather than the ones I'm looking for. I just wish there's a way to make these activites more fun.
My advice is, catch every single critter as soon as possible before you become so bored you couldn't handle activities anymore, or get the gold badges for capturing an insane amount of living things. Even time travelling might help you in that regard.
