Anyone else feel like Redd's art is too cheap?

Bells

I feel like a flat 5k bells for everything kind of trivializes the art. I think he should charge more for the bigger paintings and statues. Maybe like 25k or even 100k? It just doesn't seem right that I can buy a massive gallant statue for the measly cost of selling a few bugs.

Yeah, especially since they've added luxury items and now a laptop and a guitar are all 70k at least. I think Redd should visit more often with expensive goods, and you should be able to buy everything he has in store that day.

While I have thought that in the past, the museum is one of the few things in the game that really feels like a goal the game intentionally pushes you towards, so to not only have it take a long long time to finish the art exhibit but also cost millions of bells seems a bit harsh to me for this goal. Nothing else museum related is bells related at all either. I get the idea that world famous art should cost a lot of money though...Kinda a hard choice.

I don't really think it's too cheap just because you're taking the chance for it being fake. It may seem like a small amount, but I'm not sure how many people want to spend 100k on a possibly fake painting. Plus, that's a lot of bells if you have to spend 100k on each painting or statue to fill the art part of your museum.

I think bells in general are pretty trivial after a while, but yes given they added a bunch of 100k+ luxury items they probably should've done the same with art.

You all have valid points! But I feel like given how infrequent he visits, it's very doable to save up bells in anticipation of buying from him, especially when you're limited to 1 purchase. Spending 25k-100k a couple times a month for the museum would be worth it for me.

As someone who is constantly broke I would never complete my museum if he charged a lot especially due to potential fakes. He already shows up pretty sparsely, no need to make it even harder on people to finish the art section. 25k would be the most I would shell out if his prices raised.

The expensive items at Nooklings are more than enough as a way to burn bells. I hate having to scurry around desperately to make bells whenever one I like pops up.

I can't imagine charging more would be pleasant for even more casual players either.

I think the art could have made a great late-game goal later on especially since the game expects you to make 10M with turnips at one point.
Considering it came out so early I think the cheap price and limit is understandable, but Redd really has to show up more often.

When he first visits, he does that bait and switch where he charges 498,000 bells and I honestly thought for a moment that was the norm now - since a lot of other stuff has gone up in price too. Imagine how gutting it'd have been to pay 498,000 bells for a fake.

I do think they're about the same as they always were though, and given his visiting frequency, I feel like that's the limiting factor of getting paintings, not the price.

I mean it is funny that Nook will sell certain random items for 100k+ bells and meanwhile art is so lowly priced. I think it just goes along with the theme of Redd being shady though and possibly stealing the art so he would have paid nothing and is still creating a profit lol

i was thinking the same thing. the prices seemed way too low especially because things like tvs and laptops are priced higher now.
although i'm not sure it would really be fair to exclude people who are early in the game and don't have many bells from collecting art at all.

This is just a thought, but maybe it would be cool to have a feature where you could pay Redd an additional fee on top of the painting price to let you purchase another painting/sculpture. The fee could be extremely high (say, 100k plus) and you could only be allowed to do this once a day. It'd fit with Redd's whole personality of being a shady art dealer, and would allow you to acquire art faster but at a cost.

... Then again, I'm not sure if Nintendo wants to encourage or normalize bribery, which is what this offer essentially is.

Yoo I actually like this idea a lot! Early game players can still purchase 1 at a cheap price, while late game players can afford to buy another piece of art. I mean the fact that he sells fake art is pretty sketchy haha, I feel like Nintendo wouldn't have a problem with bribery

When it comes to Animal Crossing, I'm a cheapskate. I don't like spending more than 2,000 Bells on something unless I really want it or need it. 😅
