Anyone else don't like the idea of us choosing villagers house placement?

While I would shout at the sky if Nintendo put a stop to plot resetting, I don't really want them to put in an official option to place them. Just as they shouldn't put in an option to permanently stop animals from moving, even though it would save a lot of heartache. These guys are supposed to have lives of their own and we shouldn't have little checkboxes in menus to control all of that stuff.

It wouldn't be bad to have some kind of zoning control, but it would have to be limited. You can't just place the whole map off-limits and break the game.

I absolutely agree.
It would take away some of the 'challenge', and the unpredictable random element to animal crossing.
In my opinion, people have taken it too far with trying to get PERFECT towns exactly how they want. It is a go-with-the-flow game, whether you like it or not.
Also, even though I'm mayor I don't want to dictate everything. It's nice that the animals have their own choice of where they go.

Zoning control would be nice. For the first time I'm trying to landscape and Melba just dropped her house in a terrible place. x)

Though I'm not too worried about dictating precise locations. Just let me cordon off some land for pretties.

I agree with you. I don't really like lines of homes; I like it when it's more random. When it's random, I like to think of reasons why the villagers chose to live there.

Yeah I don't like the lines of homes either, I prefer it more natural.

i'd personally just be happy if they could at least stop them from moving so close to other buildings or over trees or something, i've lost a lot of good hybrid flowers and villagers because they move to closely to something : o:

I'd be happy with that too - the villagers seem to have more freedom in where they put their houses than the mayors placing PWPs.

i've never reset for villager placements, seems tedious and boring but yeah some placements do bother me. nothing i can do about it though once they already moved in. i just learn to work with it if i have a certain design in my town. i hope in a future game they do add that in though, considering you're the mayor you should be able to have some sort of control of where they move in.

I don't like the idea of random placements. The villagers always seem to pick the worst spots, like in front of the bridge, in front of my house, blocking pathways. I wish we could just designate an area where they can plop their houses and they can be all random over there.

But I just feel like in video games, there are challenges you need to overcome, that's part of the point. If you could choose everything and put everything exactly where you want, you lose some of the point of the game. I like the challenge of relaying paths to fit in a new house etc. I know everyone plays differently but I really hope they don't let you choose the placements in future games.

I feel like we should have limited control to where they move. When they're moving in, the game gives us 4 places where they can go, all randomized. So you pick one, and that's where their house goes.

This really Depends on what villager chooses where to make their home e.g. If Kabuki/Zucker ruined my path to make their home I'd work with it as they are my babies HOWEVER, Say Canberra or Quillson choose to do the same I'll lose it! I understand how it may seem unnatural to some but to me it would be a great advantage as I have a REALLY specific Idea of How I want my town to turn out.

i'd kill for a feature like that it'd make life way easier for us people who want a perfect aligned town. haven't played any past animal crossing games besides new leaf so i think the pre-determined areas that villagers can move in seemed like a great idea (like in PG, WW and CF).

But if they did the signpost pre-determined areas again, that would be even more things getting in the way of PWPs

I can see both sides of it.

I don't dislike the idea even in cases where I'm not sure I'd use it. Unless they made it mandatory, maybe they could make it optional so you control it if you wanted to or not control it if you wanted it to be random. It would be easier than resetting for the people who like to have control and would still allow randomness for people who like that.

People have different playing styles so I don't really buy into the logic that it would make the game less fun if they allowed people to do it (as long as they didn't make us use that feature and we could choose). Some people find it more fun if they can have a perfectly arranged town while others like to work with the randomness. I like the randomness but I can see why some people wouldn't. It's like trading TBT for in-game bells, TTing, anything else pretty much. Some people hate TTing, others love it, and it's awesome that the game doesn't force you to TT unless you want to.

I enjoy the random placements because I find it more challenging but I do wish we could set up off limits areas. For people who don't plan on having a full set of 10 dreamies to keep forever, creating stuff like orchards and gardens is annoying because there's always the risk that someone will move in on top of it.

Personally, who cares what other people do or why they reset? ^^; I would like this option. It would be nice to include it as a possible pwp option, so those who prefer random placements can keep the way it is, or those with prefferred spots can use the pwp option. Animal crossing is what you make it, so I think it would be fair for everyone to have their towns the way they like it. just my 2 cents.

It was just a question .

Lots of good points made in this thread. While I do plot reset, I don't think we should be able to choose exactly where villagers move in, because that'd take all the challenge out of it and everyone's towns would look the same with all the houses lined up perfectly. How boring.

I do agree that they shouldn't be able to move so close to other buildings, like maybe a bigger buffer zone in front of Re-Tail and the town hall and such.

Personally, I think being able to choose where a villager's house would go in a future installment would be perfect. Preferably optional for the people who want to risk having a villager landing in an awful spot. It wouldn't take away any "challenge", it would just let you be in control. In my eyes there is nothing wrong with being in control of a videogame.

Even after all these terrific responses I still see both sides. Nonetheless, Nintendo would, I'm sure, NEVER implement it. It's a great discussion, but it will never happen. They have too many other features to worry about and only so much to work with and I highly doubt that this will be even on the back burner for them to even think about.

Some things (I've never played the previous AC games, but I've heard of this) such as being able to stop a villager from moving even when he/she is in boxes would be great to have back. That feature was once available and bringing it back probably wouldn't be much trouble.

Part of me dreams of having more control over housing, part of me doesn't.

I would never vote on this even if it were possible because I don't believe in trying to control how other people play their own game. Having an option to choose from would be great and then we could all be happy and play how we wish.

Still, Nintendo, I'm sure, won't even consider it. I wish I knew what they are thinking about on future versions, tho. I am not "in the know" on such things, but I'll think positive and believe that someone is planning out the next AC installment. :)
