It feels weird reading this thread, because we still have daily news printed and delivered to our house every single day. I only ever liked the comics and horoscope section of the newspapers, and the kids newspaper that came every Saturday.
This is funny reading this like it's some lost ancient thing. I still see newspapers, fliers, and all sorts of papers. It hasn't stopped.
We used to take everyone's old newspapers and use them to start fires during winter. That was pretty much the most use we've ever got out of newspapers. I would hide the comicstrips and read them before they had the chance to burn them.On Sundays, my mom used to send me down to the newspaper machine on the corner. Cost four quarters when I was a kid. She wanted the ads they would stuff in the newspaper that day. Imagine that-willingly paying for ads! We were poor and she never bought anything so not sure why she bothered. This was only for like a year or two thankfully.

@ShawnFuzz and anyone else who might be interested. I promised I would take pictures of the old newspaper I had. I forgot the date until I retrieved it from my storage, but it's 1949. And what's really cool is it's during Christmas time so you get to see what stores were advertising to get for your loved ones. Old and young!
So apparently people use newspaper for insulation in their old homes and maybe still do? There were a handful of pages in pretty bad shape around the edges, but the middle was mostly still intact and legible. So it was really fun to see the illustrations and a part of life back then.
I added some of these so we can all see the difference in prices.
