Any Landscaping Tips?

I put qr codes where I want to place my villagers. I heard in New Horizons you don't need to do that at all, lucky aren't ya? But in New Leaf, we're limited in placing our villagers unless we place qr codes everywhere except for where buildings are going to be.

isn’t that already a new leaf thread though? but yeh qr designs helps a lot with planning everything in town. i had seperate designs that said “bush”, “tree”, “pwp”, “house” and an extra general “wip” tag. i looked up pwp list, wrote down fitting ones and learned buildings’ space requirements. plus i took a screenshot of my map and drew over it on paint to create a good path to organize everything beforehand, which is a tecnique I strongly recommend doing before starting to landscape around. so that your town will have a cohesive feel to it. it doesn’t matter how you draw, as long as you can understand what symbol is for what you are good. another thing is; never be satisfied with your early work. landscaping improves a lot in time. do something then take time to distance yourself with what you did, look at other towns and landscaping inspo posts. once your mind is clear of traces of what you did you can review your work objectively and see some flaws you didn’t see before. if you don’t see anything then it’s time to stop and move onto another area. it’s a very perfectionist and nitpicky approach to landscaping towns and costs you a lot of time but trust me you’ll be happy with results. feel free to message me if you need further help and feedback with anything

I would say start by figuring out the best ways to get around your town and the theme or feel you want your town to have. For example, whether you want a natural town with smaller winding paths or a more organized layout with wider straight pathways. Lay down some patterns and follow them to see if you like your paths. They don't have to be your permanent path patterns. Anything will do just to get an idea.

Once you know how you plan on getting around, you can start placing bridges and figure out where to place villager houses, major PWPs, etc. I use patterns to map everything out in my towns to make sure I'm happy with it first. I recommend that you hold off on placing any permanent PWPs until you are absolutely certain of your plans. I placed my campsite too early and wish I could change it.

The last thing I work on is filling in the remaining open spaces with smaller PWPs, trees, bushes and flowers. For that, I just try different things to see how they look. You may end up changing your mind and redoing things a couple of times and that's ok. I think it's fun to watch the town grow and change over time, so if you're not happy with something, don't be afraid to go back to the drawing board.

Speaking of drawing, I also literally blocked out my entire town on a grid to help me plan everything out. It gave me a better perspective since I could look at an overview of my whole town at once and use the blocks to determine what would fit in certain areas.

The poster has posted this in a New Leaf thread. Look at the top
yeah it is what i said. i was talking about how you suddenly mentioned new horizons. read carefully before trying to inform me

My fault. Sorry, it's just, when people say "landscaping" the only thing I can think of is the other game, as you really cannot landscape on New Leaf. And considering the fact I have no idea what that character is on her profile, I assume it's the new game, and according to my friends on here, you can freely landscape on the other game.

nah it’s alright <3 and sorry for the harsh response i misunderstood your intend

Not sure what you want your town to convey, but I personally just placed a bunch of flowers, bamboos, mushrooms, and trees to fill in empty or dead spaces in between my pwps and along my path. For placing pwps, it was easy to envision where I wanted certain projects because the map isn't that big and my path takes up a bit of space too. I was never one to plan out the way I want my game to look so I just go with the flow.

my main piece of advice is to try and figure out what you want to do as early on as possible. figure out a path and lay it down, estimate where you’ll want pwps and the buildings that cannot be moved. whatever spaces are left, you can reserve those for villager homes

If you want fences in acnl, you can use bushes and shrubs and could also place some flowers or trees in some empty areas.
But its better to start small so you can make your town look better.

Wow, so many replies! Thanks all, I'll think a little more about the town layout and such. And yes, this is for New Leaf, not New Horizons ^^

Ah, I didn't know it was already a thread, my bad 😅 Thank you for your input, I appreciate the help and advice <3

Tbh my town is kinda chaotic so I'm not one to talk but using trees to make little 'nooks' in your town can really add to it; like having little benches etc hidden away. I also like to abuse flowers as much as possible 🥰

  1. In my opinion, the best landscaping tip would be to use a professional's services to create a yard's design. For example, I have used the services of jscustomlandscaping.com, and I am extremely glad about the results. I have a big yard, so I had a lot of possibilities to do. First of all, I wanted t a place where I could grow some fruits and vegetables. Growing them makes me feel so calm. I like waking up in the morning, and the first thing I do is check my yard and admire the plants I am growing.

What I usually do is to connect all the villager houses & important places (like retail/town hall) with road patterns first to divide the town a bit & narrow a bit where i can put things. I think the easiest way to fill up the town without thinking much is to plant trees surrounding PWPs to create a small/hidden place! It takes a good chunk of space and looks good most of the time. If you want a more urban town, I think bushes can do the trick too. In general, decorating in small portions instead of wanting to make a very big area helps.
