Any idea why the name length is at 8 letters and not 10?

Cuz it's so annoying that it's a 8-character limit. I wanted to name my town Britannia (9 letters) and my boyfriend couldnt use his full name (Johnathan) cuz it's 9 letters

I can understand the point of not allowing town names to be 20 characters long, but a limit of 8 is stupid and it shouldn't have been hard for the developers to figure out that it's too short. Of all the things that take up memory in ACNL, a few extra characters in the town name isn't even a drop in the bucket.

8 is an odd number choice.
Honestly, most of the town names I've wanted to use were 9 characters when I was picking my town name, which was disappointing. Off by just one...
I can't really think of a reason they would stick with 8 characters. You can fit quite a few town names with just 8... but it wouldn't take much for anyone to realize 9 or 10 would be nicer. :U

I had to shorten my second town name from 10 to 8. It's actually hard to comprehend if the name makes sense even if I write it in full, but now, it's even more hard to read or pronounce properly lol it looks unique though (at least, for me). Either way, they should've made it at least 10 characters.

"Chocolat" is the French word for chocolate.

Btw I think they specificly implemented a limit of 8 characters because the word "Nintendo" consists of 8 letters.

Yeah, that's really annoying! I had a name for my town and when I get the game and started it I discovered I couldn't name my town like that for just one letter! And the same happened with my name, which is ten letters long! They must fix that.

One of the most annoying things about the game. I can't even count how many times I've come up with a good character or town name, only to have it be ONE letter short. Ughhhhhhh
