I've been looking for tarantulas/scorpions every night with no luck of finding any! I really need tips for the following:

1. Where to find them
2. How to improve your town so you can find them
3. How to catch them
4. How to be sneaky (so you can catch them)
5. How to not get bitten

Please help me out and reply if you have any pointers. ;)

It's actually no hard at all. I thought the same but it is annoying. They spawn wherever. Make sure to move toward them slowly or they attack you xD but you also have to be kind of quick or they somehow disappear

Thanks! Anyone else have good info? (Look at the top 'cuz that's what I need info on)

1. Where to find them
I usually find them both in open areas
scorpions: the scorpions i've seen like spawning near my ponds/rivers. they also like jumping in said ponds/rivers right away ; u;
tarantulas: open areas.. i think they both can spawn pretty much anywear though ; u;

2. How to improve your town so you can find them
i think if you have some empty areas thats all you need~

2a. How to find them
a) make sure your gates are closed and your net is ready
b) keep walking around untill you see one (2am-4am is the best time i think)
c) if you fail in catching the one you saw, enter and leave a building to reset spawn locations and look in the area it spawned before. repeat as necessary ; u;

3. How to catch them
i think its easier to aproach and catch it from the sides.. but that might be personal preference, just use your regular bug catching methods and be cautious~ if its near a river/pond i think you should move faster

4. How to be sneaky (so you can catch them)
a button? ; u;

5. How to not get bitten
catch it c;

I found my first one (that I wasn't able to catch because I wasn't expecting it) two nights ago, after 7 PM EST, by the railroad tracks right in front of the entrance to Main Street. Last night, I caught it (again, I wasn't expecting) near the cliff (near the southern part of my map but not on the beach)--I forgot what time it was; I wasn't creeping since I wasn't expecting to find that furry, hairy disgusting thing (sorry, but I had to say that :P), but I still was able to catch it.

I didn't know they could bite you (in the game) o.O. There are some trees in the area I caught mine at, but they weren't on top of each other like a forest. I think you'll be able to find it even if your town doesn't have an area that is just wide open space. And if you do see it not moving (which I haven't in the two encounters I have had), sneak is holding the a button as desu stated above this post.

I have yet to see one, but if you're planning on catching one maybe keep your wetsuit on so you can jump in the sea haha

Guys, when is the best time to "hunt" for tarantulas? And I don't have many open spaces in my town, so please give me some pointers!
I won't be able to reply in 2 hours... I have an event.

Last night Player 2 and 3 caught their tarantulas in a short period of time. I've caught them for 11 players.
Player 2 caught his at 730pm and player 3 caught hers around 800pm. Later Player 2 found another one while going to the island.
This was a new town and I didn't know where they spawned a lot. Found out it was my event plaza, near the bridge by the docks/ mayor house and close to Player 2 house.

This is my 2nd year playing in my Guest town and the tarantulas/scorpion spawned in the same spot. Near the campsite, Cyrano and Sterling house and the city hall.

Once you see one remove some of the flowers in that area. Just leave a few for them to think they can hide. It's easier to see them.

Going about your daily routine and doing things for the villagers help. Either carry a watering can or a fishing rod. Have your net next in your pocket. I put all the tools away in my letters so the net would be next. Take a stroll thru your town so it doesn't freak them out. If they freak out I let them go.
After dropping off a gift I left the house and found a tarantula outside.
If one of the spots you've seen them is the river than fish. I spent time fishing near the campground and tarantula/scorpion have walked behind me. Caught the fish and than switched to the net.
If it tries to attack you freeze. Wait for it to calm down and than move forward and catch.

Don't pull your net out if it's really close. You'll get taken out and wake up in front of your house.

If it tries to jump off the cliff or into the river try backing up a little. I've stopped them from jumping and they started walking towards me.
One time one was stuck on the cliff and didn't move. So I took a chance and caught it.

Most of the times I've caught them they've been very lazy. Just moved a little to show you they were there and than sat. Waited to be caught.

Also wearing your lucky item of the day helps. Three of my player had Good Fortune on Items when they caught their tarantula/ scorpions.

One of the best time to see them is Summer Solstice. It's light all night long and you'll see the black thing moving. The first one I saw I freaked out but than I started to calm down.

Also watch your villagers when they're not moving. Three villagers were standing by the bridge and wouldn't move. Walked to the right and there was the tarantula. Villagers will also tell you when a tarantula is around. It's never happened to me but it did to a friend. Yesterday I found a picture on Miiverse where it happened to the player. The villager was freaking out while it was cl

Wow! That's awesome advice stitchmaker! But does anyone else have more info?

I've had the most success finding them when looking in the middle of the night (around 2:00 - 4:00 A.M.). Like others have said, it is best to have your net as the next tool available so that you can just press right to pull it out when needed. When I see a tarantula, I try to keep a safe distance when I pull out the net. Then I slowly approach it while holding A. It should just sit there and hiss at you. Just keep approaching it very slowly until you are in range and then release A and you should have yourself a tarantula.

Found two last night just by sneaking about my town with my net out. I scouted out my town using the analogue stick to walk very slowly. Both Tarantulas were found after 11pm within 10 minutes of each other. Was hunting for about 30-40 mins. The spiders didn't notice me, didn't move much either. I even messed around with the second one for 2-3 minutes taking screens for Miiverse and admiring how adorable it was.

Both encounters were in heavily forested and flowered areas of my town. they're not hard to spot if you keep your eyes peeled and walk slowly around your town. Patience is key! Good luck!

Pot night I looked everywhere for a tarantula/scorpion but I just can't find one! Any more tips?

tarantulas are odd. the other night, I saw 3. last night, couldn't see any. it doesn't seem like there's much you can do, aside from resetting bugs spawning and walking around a lot.
I have no tips for catching one, I'm trying to just overcome my fear of them currently. it's hard when they won't show up, though. :I

Lol! Typo, didn't mean to say "pot night", I meant to say tonight.

But Bon Bonne I feel the same way. ;) That's why I made this thread!

I have very very little open ground in my town, so that definitely helps with spawning as they can both only spawn on open ground. For the tarantula I just got lucky wandering around one night, saw an insect that looked different, got my net out and caught it. The scorpion took a lot of saving and continuing to reset the map, until one night it just showed up after my first save and continue. It didn't even hiss at me, and I'm pretty sure I already had my net out.

I highly suggest limiting the spawning area as much as possible. Flowers, PWPs, and patterns are your best bet as trees will spawn other insects. I've read of people cutting down all the trees in their town, but that's really not necessary. Just try to increase your odds as much as possible and have patience ^_^

This is not really related to tips for catching them, but I've mistaken Olivia's tail for a scorpion several times when she's behind a tree.
