Given the fact that the Sanrio update is coming on March 18th and that Saint Patick's Day items are available until March 17th (and they are the last items included in the Mario update), I think it's safe to assume that the anniversary update (if there's one) is coming March 18th along with the Sanrio update.

If that's true, we'll be getting the announcement within 3 weeks.

What are your hopes and dreams? And what's you expectation?

I think it's finally time we see Brewster.

I hope some of the amiibo cards that previously only gave us posters or didn't even work finally get more use from the ABD!

no speculation, but I just find it neat how an anniversary update would likely be version 2.0. assuming sanrio is separate

My expectations and hopes are low. I really think they would have teased something if they were going to acknowledge the anniversary.
Since it's confirmed we are getting an update on March 18th though, I think that anything added then will just be more items/DIYS, possibly related to this years bunny day.

I'd definitely love to see brewster but I feel like that's a very large thing to be expecting from them right now.
It would be the perfect way to celebrate and satisfy fans for the anniversary though.

I can't say I hope for much. March is a huge month with a ton of items and the sanrio villagers. I'm really happy with how they're doing things in March so anything else they add is just a bonus for me. My hopes above anything are always QOL and new things for us to do daily though. :)

I'm a little nervous that the Sanrio update is the anniversary update for March. Fingers crossed that I'm wrong.

If there will be an anniversary update, I’d like to see one new addition plus a bunch of much needed QoL improvments.

The one new addition could be Brewster/Gyroids, new foliage (Spring is the perfect time to introduce perfect fruit, returning fruit trees, new/returning flowers, new bush types), or just simply new hair styles and hair/eye colors.

  • QoL improvements
  • Introduction of new fish/bugs/sea creatures
  • The return of many furniture sets~ rococo, regal, fish/bug sets, gorgeous, sweets, etc.
  • Villager visits (you visit them, they visit you) and more villager interactions in general
  • The return of exotic, tropical fruits~ lemons, mangoes, lychees, persimmons, durians and bananas
  • Return of Brewster/Gyroids
  • Give Leif his little flower shop again
  • With the reintroduction of Sanrio villagers, the ability to have 12 or more villagers living on the island (of course this is just wishful thinking)
  • Expansion of Nook's Cranny
Expectations are set to low as always, but it can be fun and interesting to speculate. Who knows? They surprised us with Sanrio.

Honestly, when I saw the Sanrio update my heart sank. Like, I'm happy for those who are going to purchase the cards and invite the villagers, but I don't care about any of them except for Étoile, maybe, but I'm certainly not buying the pack only for one character. I don't care about most of the items either. I must be the only one here, I know, but still.

The video mentioned the update would drop on March 18th to prepare for the amiibo cards, but nothing else, so I'm honestly expecting zero extra additions. If that's the case, I think I'll drop the game. The past two updates have been mediocre and I'm being generous, and I've already seen all seasons and will have all bugs, fish and deep-sea creatures by then. My island is also finished and I don't like redoing everything every month, so there's not much else for me to do. So yeah, unless they prove me wrong, I think this is it for me.

This also marks the beginning of paid DLC, which is something I'm not really okay with given that we're still missing dozens of features, characters, furniture items and an endless list of stuff I'm not going to mention because everyone's already aware of this.

Not really expecting anything but I do have a wish list.

-12 villagers. I'd love to have 2 of each type of personality
-More custom design slots. There are so many cool designs I'd love to use but can't because I don't have space
-Bringing back the old fruits we're missing. I miss lemons.
-A permanent shop for Leif
-Brewster
-More returning old furniture sets
-New bugs/fish
-More plants to grow along with the pumpkins
-New hairstyles and hair colors

I'm not expecting anything other than the Sanrio, but I'm hoping they treat ACNH updates like Splatoon (considering they're more or less the same team) and have huge updates for 2.0.0, 3.0.0, etc.
If Sanrio is 1.9.0, and the next update for 2.0.0 is the same as other updates in terms of how much content it brings and doesn't bring anything substantial, then yikes.

Also, if the next Nook upgrade has taken 1 year, then is the final Nook upgrade going to take 2 years or something ? ? ?

I won't "speculate" because my expectations are very low but I will list several things that I've been hopeful for (some since last summer). I am glad that the Sanrio crew are back though

Hopes & Dreams (March 18)
1. Good anniversary items: Cake, decorations, maybe statues of Tom Nook or the Nooklings, the ideas are endless
2. Blanca and April Fool's: I liked how getting photos was easy in NL. Hopefully its just like NL
3. Fixing Bunny Day: Perhaps just scrap it all together and replace it with something else? Nah, thats too hopeful. But I hope that they reduce the amount of eggs and add new Bunny Day items
4. Brewster. The Roost. Brewster
5. Brewster. Gyroids. Brewster
6. Did I mention Brewster?

hmmm my speculation is that there WILL be more than just the Sanrio update because they could've just mentioned them in the last Nintendo direct. This feels hush hush to me kinda, like they want people to be aware that you can buy these new cards for marketing and then they'll drop a new Anniversary Update that reiterates the fact that there are these new characters AND their new furniture sets.

I say this because my 2nd speculation is that there is going to be a Nooks Shop upgrade with a bunch of new furniture sets. The Sanrio cards alone introduce like 6 new furniture minisets

A lot of what I would want is really just hopes and dreams, I think at bare minimum I am expecting them to add the villager visits since it seems like they have been working on that behind the scenes plus I think that would really make a lot of the older fan base happy for the people who are less interested in decorating and just care about hanging out with their villagers.

As for the hopes and dreams part...
-some sort of built in multiplayer activities, doesn't necessarily need to be Tortimer Island 2.0 but I would like more things to do with friends
-a second round of zodiac diys from Celeste / or just some additional content for her
-deep sea creature models? I'm okay if it's still just through C.J. with no new NPC for this but I would like the models
-LITERALLY ANY new building PLEASE (especially if it's the Roost..)
-Gracie Grace and her furniture, we NEED more furniture so desperately and I think expensive items that players need to grind a little bit to afford would be perfect

I was thinking about it, and maybe the reason they released the Sanrio trailer so early, and use the term "after a software update" is because the March 18th update may have its own trailer that we'll see closer to the actual date showcasing what the actual update is all about.

Am I the only one who doesn’t want Leif to have an actual shop?

There was a time last year when I thought that your island’d have additional shops, but I’m honestly more inclined towards there at some point being a city that you visit over your island basically getting lots of single-subject shops. It’s a deserted island getaway, you’re moving AWAY from the city... you’re not building one on an island, imo.

(also I honestly feel as if LGTTC/NL suffer from the fact that most of its visiting NPCs have been farmed off to shops, because there’s nothing to replace them after they’ve gone... but now there’s potentially going to be a good blend of visiting NPCs and shops!)

I'm a little nervous that the Sanrio update is the anniversary update for March. Fingers crossed that I'm wrong.
That would be a bad anniversary update for sure 😂

If there will be an anniversary update, I’d like to see one new addition plus a bunch of much needed QoL improvments.

I didn't think of foliage, I think this is a perfect time for reintroducing perfect fruits and bananas, lemons etc.

Regarding the QoL improvements, as much as I would love it, I don't think we're going to see them, sadly.

Honestly, when I saw the Sanrio update my heart sank. You're not the only one. I couldn't care less of the Sanrio villagers. I'm happy only for the new furniture, even if they're not great.

And of course as many of you said, I'd love to see a Nook's Cranny expansion coming along with new - and returning - furniture.

Unlock all past amiibo content.
Mansion house size return.
NL house/mailbox exteriors plus new exteriors.
More fencing.
NL furniture and items.
Stackable furniture in storage.
Improve bulk buying of all things.
More storage.
More custom design slots.
Kapp'n and Tortimer island + tours.
Gracie and Katrina.
The Post Office.
Brewster (no gyroids)
Amenities like Pocket Camp.

Bring back certain NL PWP's like the windmill, statue fountain, and zen bell.

Removal of crafting, autosave, and breaking tools.

Am I the only one who doesn’t want Leif to have an actual shop?
I want more shops but I agree with you that I don't think Leif needs his own shop.

I think to justify an additional building on the island it needs to be something you can visit every day, and I don't think anyone really needs Leif every day (aside from just to look at him because he's so cute). I think that what they've done in regards to Leif is definitely a step up from NL because we can just buy in bulk when he comes around instead of only being able to buy 2 lousy shrubs a day.

I’m not sure either we will get a massive update with all these items and features like the above users have stated or it will be a little update like the Sanrio one
