Anime recommendations?

Try Studio Ghibli it's movies are always interesting and quite charming
I would also usually always recommend The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya but I guess some characters are quite sexualised :p

No ecchi or harem? Well, there goes all of your options. Just kidding.

I agree with JellofishXD, Ghibli movies are breathtakingly beautiful with touching story lines, however you don't always want to commit to one to two hour long sessions. But if you are interested, any of them can be recommended.

I'm guessing you'd like to start with some relatively short series (12 eps, probably not straight away with those series like One Piece which is currently up to #746 haha...). I'm not sure what genres you'd like, so I'm going to recommend some.

My thoughts: A sweet anime that brings childhood friends back together over the death of their friend. Will also leave you in tears.
Jinta Yadomi is peacefully living as a recluse, spending his days away from school and playing video games at home instead. One hot summer day, his childhood friend, Meiko "Menma" Honma, appears and pesters him to grant a forgotten wish. He pays her no mind, which annoys her, but he doesn't really care. After all, Menma already died years ago.

At first, Jinta thinks that he is merely hallucinating due to the summer heat, but he is later on convinced that what he sees truly is the ghost of Menma. Jinta and his group of childhood friends grew apart after her untimely death, but they are drawn together once more as they try to lay Menma's spirit to rest. MAL link
Score: 8.74 (180,00+ voters)
Episodes: 11
Genres: Mystery, Psychological, Seinen, Supernatural
My thoughts: Most hyped anime of early 2016, every episode will have you on the edge of your seat. I enjoyed this, though found the cliffhangers frustrating while it was airing. Although there is some death, it's not a blood fest.
When tragedy is about to strike, Satoru Fujinuma finds himself sent back several minutes before the accident occurs. The detached, 29-year-old manga artist has taken advantage of this powerful yet mysterious phenomenon, which he calls "Revival," to save many lives.

However, when he is wrongfully accused of murdering someone close to him, Satoru is sent back to the past once again, but this time to 1988, 18 years in the past. Soon, he realizes that the murder may be connected to the abduction and killing of one of his classmates, the solitary and mysterious Kayo Hinazuki, that took place when he was a child. This is his chance to make things right.

Boku dake ga Inai Machi follows Satoru in his mission to uncover what truly transpired 18 years ago and prevent the death of his classmate while protecting those he cares about in the present.

Score: 8.17 (250,00+ voters)
Episodes: 12
Genres: Action, Adventure, Shounen, Supernatural
My thoughts: A more casual kind of anime in story and pace compared to the last three. Overall was enjoyable to watch, and the second season was even better.
In times of need, if you look in the right place, you just may see a strange telephone number scrawled in red. If you call this number, you will hear a young man introduce himself as the Yato God.

Yato is a minor deity and a self-proclaimed "Delivery God," who dreams of having millions of worshippers. Without a single shrine dedicated to his name, however, his goals are far from being realized. He spends his days doing odd jobs for five yen apiece, until his weapon partner becomes fed up with her useless master and deserts him.

Just as things seem to be looking grim for the god, his fortune changes when a middle school girl, Hiyori Iki, supposedly saves Yato from a car accident, taking the hit for him. Remarkably, she survives, but the event has caused her soul to become loose and hence able to leave her body. Hiyori demands that Yato return her to normal, but upon learning that he needs a new partner to do so, reluctantly agrees to help him find one. And with Hiyori's help, Yato's luck may finally be turning around.

Ajin: Demi-Human:
Where there is life, there is death... or is there? What would you do if you could never die? The possibilities are endless.

Seventeen years ago, the existence of a special species called Ajin was discovered in Africa. They are said to be immortal beings, with several supernatural abilities, that look just like any other human being. Are these Ajin just random phenomena of nature or were they purposely sent to Earth to destroy it?

Since their first discovery, several other Ajin appearances have been reported worldwide. For the majority of citizens though, these creatures are less reality and more of something you see every once in a while in a textbook or on the news. This is how it was for the young protagonist of the series, Kei. That was until a sudden turn of events changed his life forever...

Ajin is a supernatural anime full of complex ideas about life and death, as well as the dark side of human nature. What does it mean to truly be human?

A third year, Konatsu Miyamoto desperately wants to sing in her last high school recital, but because she screwed up the year before, the vice principal has barred her from participating.

That's when Konatsu comes up with a new plan to get involved; instead of joining the official choir, she'll form her own singing club with her friends! Unfortunately this proves to be harder than she imagined. Her friend Wakana Sakai, has given up on singing, for one, and Konatsu needed more than just two members. With only a month left until the recital, will Konatsu be able to find enough members for her club and actually be ready to sing at one of the most important events of the school year and graduate without regrets?

Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso/Your Lie in April:
Music accompanies the path of the human metronome, the prodigious pianist Kousei Arima. But after the passing of his mother, Saki Arima, Kousei falls into a downward spiral, rendering him unable to hear the sound of his own piano.

Two years later, Kousei still avoids the piano, leaving behind his admirers and rivals, and lives a colorless life alongside his friends Tsubaki Sawabe and Ryouta Watari. However, everything changes when he meets a beautiful violinist, Kaori Miyazono, who stirs up his world and sets him on a journey to face music again.

Based on the manga series of the same name, Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso approaches the story of Kousei's recovery as he discovers that music is more than playing each note perfectly, and a single melody can bring in the fresh spring air of April.

Ooh yeah, Hyouka is good.
Chuunibyou demo Koi ga ****ai is pretty cute too :3

Hmmm okay let's see, you want anime without any of the weird creepy anime bullcrap, right? I feel you.

Little Witch Academia (Two 1-hour movies) really good for this. It's got a lot of love put into it, it's really well made, and the best part in my opinion? You can watch it with little kids and you'll both get a lot of enjoyment out of it.

Saint Oniisan is another really good one I like to recommend for people getting into anime. It's a comedy, but I think it's really well put together and doesn't try to overdo itself. It's an anime about Buddha and Jesus hanging out in the real world on a vacation from their normal duties.

Those are both really kind of short though, so I'd like to leave you with a bit a larger recommendation before I finish.
So not sexualized, not cynical and dark, and doesn't have overtly cartoonish humor?

M̶o̶n̶s̶t̶e̶r̶ ̶M̶u̶s̶u̶m̶e̶ (pls don't)

One Punch man is a solid choice if you're mildly aware of all the cheesy anime tropes, as it's a pretty great parody of them.
(Only thing I can think of that's sexualized though is a monster in like, the third episode? But that's it and I'm about 90% sure it's also parody)

If not though, Durarara is another nice choice. It can feel very energetic at times, but I think it really fits the setting considering a big point of the show is to give the viewer a feel for how alive Ikebukuro can be. It's got two seasons now, but I've only watched the first so I can only really give you a solid recommendation for the first.

Hmm... Well, here's a few safe anime I've seen that you might like.

K-On! (4 girls form a light music club and enjoy school)
Hanayamata (5 girls form a dance club and friendships)
Tari Tari (5 high schoolers form a choir club to compete with the music club)
Akagami no Shirayuki-hime/Snow White with the Red Hair (A girl flees to another country with a boy after a malicious prince wants her as his concubine--The prince doesn't do anything to her, so don't worry)
Toradora! (A boy and a girl try to matchmake each other with their best friends)
Shinryaku! Ika Musume/Invade! Squid Girl (A squid girl tries to invade the surface world and fails)
Muteki Kanban Musume/Ramen Fighter Miki (A ramen delivery girl humorously fights with the people around her)
Natsu-iro Kiseki (4 girls spend their summer making their wishes come true through a magic rock)
Kaitou Saint Tail (A girl becomes a thief to steal back things that have been stolen from others)
Magic Kaito (A boy becomes a thief to solve the mystery of his father's death and to stop a mysterious organization from taking a gem that grants eternal life--No worries, this anime isn't really dark, and it can get pretty funny at times)

Well, I'd list more, but most of the anime I watch is pretty serious.

For people who don't generally like anime, I always recommend The Devil is a Part-Timer. The sub is on Hulu, but it's actually a rare instance of a time I think the dub is better.

Basically, Satan has to flee his world after being defeated by a hero, and ends up in Japan having to get a job at McDonalds. The characters crack me up, the only boob humor is the Hero having A-Cup Angst, and it's a good mix of plot, humor, and action.

It involves Satan's right hand man becoming a housewife, Lucifer becoming a basement dweller with a video game addiction, and the hero who defeated Satan needing to get a job at a call center.

i hope it's alrght to bump this hahah

Thanks for your recommendations so far, you guys! I'll make sure to check out hopefully most of them.

I've also been thinking of watching Cowboy Bebop. I hear it isn't super dark, but it doesn't have super weird humour either. I might be wrong on this though, but what do you guys think of CB? Is it any good? ;o;

Akatsuki no Yona
I just finished it, and I'm in love with it.
plus reverse harems are always great heh heh
