Nintendo announced today that Animal Crossing: New Horizons Switch 2 Edition will be priced at $64.99, both digitally and physically.

A paid upgrade pack will also be available for $4.99 for those already owning the base game.

This detail was a bit buried in today’s news — another thread is already discussing the announcement itself, but I thought this specific info about pricing and the upgrade option deserved its own spotlight.

IDK how it is in the US especially, but I hope people realize it's likely going to be way cheaper to buy the NS1 edition and then get the upgrade pack - the game is down to €45-48 for a new copy where I live (and I doubt cheaper used copies are hard to come by, at least ATM), so after paying €5 for the upgrade pack, that's still €12-15 cheaper than buying the NS2 edition. It feels like they should throw in the DLC if they're really charging so much more for it.

I’ve been debating on what to do. I have my own Switch and I’ve played since release date. I also have HHP. My son has a Switch 2. He mostly plays on his computer, so I’m pretty sure I could put NH on his Switch 2. So…

Should I transfer my Switch game to his Switch 2? Can I even do that since it’s his switch 2? Does HHP automatically transfer as well?

I do want a game on my switch, so I would buy another copy. Can I buy the game without HHP? I don’t need another copy of that. On the Nintendo store online, they only offer NH with HHP for a total of $84.98
Can I buy NH by itself? Maybe a physical copy?

I don’t want a used game. I’ve heard Nintendo is cracking down on that.

Edit… so apparently I can’t transfer to another person’s switch 2. However, does own a switch, so I could buy a copy for his switch, then transfer it to the switch 2.

I’m really overthinking this. I’m just doing this for the better graphics. And the megaphone. 😂

You don't need to buy another copy of the game at all, AFAIK, you might just need the upgrade pack. Just add your profile to his NS2 (you can't transfer the game to another person's profile), and download it there. You'll also need to download the island transfer tool, unless you want to start a new island on his NS2. Also, since his NS2 won't be registered as your primary console, you'll need to either connect to the internet every time you start the game, or go into the eShop and register it his NS2 as your primary console.
I'm going based on what I know from having multiple NS1s at home, but I figure it should be the same from NS1 to NS2.
