Animal Crossing: New Horizons has been nominated for 2020's GOTY award

If I’m not mistaken, this is the first time an AC game is nominated for GOTY, right? I feel AC franchise has come a long way from being a very niche game to becoming a worldwide phenomenon

This game seriously deserves it. Dude, my dad had never played a video game in his life and already logged 1,000 hours in animal crossing new horizons. It appeals to SO many people, not just people familiar with gaming.

congrats to the AC team! while i may be biased and despite it being among some other strong contenders, i truly hope new horizons wins! like others have mentioned, it’s been an absolute godsend during this uncertain and terrifying pandemic and even with all it’s flaws, it’s really one of the only good things to happen so far this year c’:

I've only played the older Final Fantasy VII and watched someone else play the last of us pt 2 so I've personally never played any of these games except for new horizons~ i know where my vote is going. Great job AC team, ya made it!

Because the story (and the major twist regarding fan-favorite TLOU1 characters) was leaked a few months before release and reading a synopsis written by some two-bit "video game journalist" trying to push a narrative to farm clicks doesn't do how the story presented itself in-game justice.

Anyways.... AC:NH is unique among those games in that the hype picks back up every time there's an update whereas the other games had their day in the sun when they first released and then stopped being talked about. NH's updates just seem more popular with people than DLC releases for other games (the updates being free helps) I know something like Ghosts of Tsushima will probably win, but aside from this I can't even remember the last time I saw it being talked about, whereas all my feeds are full of people discussing the Turkey and Toy Day stuff.
