Do you have to catch and hold 500, 1k, and 2k fish in your inventory, or do caught then promptly released fish also count?
to my knowledge it's that you have to successfully catch 500/1000/2000 fish.
and that it doesn't matter if you release them of whatever.
it is just catching as lars said. you don't have to keep them for any amount of time
