Amiibos or Chance?

I used Amiibos for three of them. I acquired the rest of my dream villagers through trades or finding them on Nook Islands, but mostly trades.

Personally I liked the "villager hunting" in NH but at the same time, that was my first animal crossing game, so my "dreamie" list wasn't very short or picky and everyone was new. 10- 20 trips and I found a villager I wanted to move in. But I think over time I will prefer amiibos more unless they come up with some other method of finding villagers in a future game.
I don't foresee them giving up amiibos, so I would imagine future games will encourage those who don't have amiibos to get some for more ease.

i usually use nmt for when i dont really have a set of 10 im looking for and then im leaving it up to chance who i find. i dont like hunting for one specific villager but thats just me. amiibos are great but also take a little while.
i actually prefer just adopting them from someone else haha

As someone who has done both, I come to realize that amiibo villagers are a lot more easy and helpful to get rid of unwanted villagers. I've had my personal struggles with trying to rely on "Chance" being trying to find villagers through Nook Mile Tickets or the Random Visitors on Campsite. I personally hate the campsite random visits because you always have to put up with the villager always repeating how fun it is to camp and you have to keep talking to them until they feel like they wanna move, but the most annoying part is that they challenge to a card mini game which is by far the worst and annoying feature in this game.

Basically you have to win the card mini game in order for the villager to move in, but if you fail, you have to talk to them so many times just to get the card mini game started again and try to win. When you do win it gets even worse. They say how there is no room to move in and when you ask you "do you know anyone?" and the game just suddenly picks a random villager for you. It can be any of favorites, but when you say no you have to do the whole process again. Its so dumb,

However, with amiibo cards they are so much easily. Basically you invite the villager you want using the ABD at Resident Services. They will arrive at the campsite after you invite them and when you talk they will ask you to craft a souvenir for them. When you do that, they say how they love it and they wish to be invited again tomorrow. Keep doing this 2 more times and when you get on the 3rd day you will be able to invite the villager and this time you are in control of who gets to move out. Which is much better than the random campsite mini game deciding for you.

Overall, I would say using amiibo cards to kick out villagers is the best way to get rid of them faster, but of course if you want to get an empty plot you have to rely on the game's RNG with the thought bubble to pick whatever villager you want to move out and they will leave behind an empty plot on your island so you can go villager hunting with the Nook Mile Tickets.

I like a bit of both. The surprises you find by hunting can be very fun, but sometimes there's that one villager that you really, really want, and they just won't show up for you. Or a villager moves onto your island that you really, really don't want, and, rather than waiting for them to decide to leave on their own, you can just replace them with an amiibo right away.

And amiibo were in New Leaf, so New Horizons isn't the first Animal Crossing game to use them. But I think New Horizons is using them better, because in New Leaf, villagers invited with amiibo would never leave. (I think maybe if you had enough amiibo villagers living in your town, they'd start moving out like normal, but only one of them, then you'd be below the amiibo limit that would make them move.)

Neither, I don't use NMT's or amiibo lol. I just cycle with the campsite. It takes a bit longer but I don't have to spend NMT's and rely on RNG and I don't have to rely on the amiibo cards that I can't get anymore.

I do both although I rely more on amiibo recently. I did not pre-order any Series 5 amiibo, so I guess I'll have to rely on luck to find Marlo next week. I'll get the amiibos later on.

I barely see anyone do the "Let the plot fill" technique because a lot of times you can get a really bad villager who has a home filled was too many stuff in it because they came from someone else island. I done it once and I regretted it.

It’s funny to me you mention let the plot fill. Because I was actually thinking about doing just that. I finally have real amiibo cards of the last three villagers I want on my main island. Since I’m not sure I want to bring them in right away. I was thinking the next time a villager asks to leave I might just let the plot randomly fill in.

But remember if you do you might end up with a villager who is not someone you would like or depending on how gifted they are if they are from another island.

ACNL had the Amiibo, but not initially. You would occasionally get campers if you had a campsite, but otherwise you had no say in who moved in unless you got them from a friend. Before that, you could only occasionally get villagers from others, and at least in the first game you couldn't decide who or when. ACNH has the most control EVER over villager move-ins. (which, as a long time player, I very much appreciate, lol)

Anyway, for me, it depends. If I just need a villager of a specific gender or personality, and have a few in mind I'd be willing to take, I enjoy island hopping. But occasionally (like now) I have a specific villager in mind (Jacques in this case) and I try and find someone on here who has their Amiibo, if I don't have it myself. Now that we have more freedom over our island, and the ability to decorate outside, I LOVE having the ability to choose specific villagers- that way, I can find not only villagers I like, but ones whose houses will fit onto my current island design (*fingers crossed we can update exteriors in addition to interiors with the DLC, it'll be GAME CHANGING for me)

Also, I might make a second island at some point (I got another Switch since my old one wasn't working right, but it can still play simple games like ACNH) and I'm making it themed... but I'm also considering just letting randoms move in, with no input, to see what happens!

I also use amiibos but I just pay the extra to get specific cards online rather than gamble many packs in hopes of finding the villagers I want... but on my second island I just leave it up to chance and I found myself loving random villagers I hadn't given a chance beforehand. So, kinda 50/50 ?

I think the Happy home paradise DLC is going to fix a lot of that in a way.
If we eventually can just redecorate their island homes directly, the number of weird gifts any villager has been given kinda doesn't matter anymore. :D

Yea I thought about that. That’s why I wanted to have amiibo cards just in case I get someone I don’t like. I have already scanned in Puck twice just in case I get someone I don’t like. Now I just have to wait for someone to ask to leave.

I prefer chance villagers, ive found many of my dreamies that way. Thought it did sometimes take a few trips to a nookmile island to find a villager id be happy with.

Considering that the only Amiibo I have aren't compatible with New Horizons, Wolf Link and Ganon, I'm relying on tickets to get me the villagers I'm looking for. I'm developing a "dreamie" list that goes with my Cthulu/mystic island.

I do need to encounter Stu and Monty again because I want their posters in my catalog. First time around, I didn't know much about Harv's island and missed out.

I prefer finding villagers by chance, but I like having both options available. I scanned about half of my villagers in and honestly I regret since I really enjoy island hopping and meeting random villagers. I want to still cycle but since my of the villagers that are taking up a spot are dreamies, that gives me only one spot to cycle rather than more than one. I do have their amiibo cards (except for a couple of them) but I still rather not move them out now that they’re here.

I prefer hunting, but I'll use Amiibo if I can't find someone after a period of time.

neither. printing NMTs takes too much time. I am considering amiibo for like, 2 villagers I'd like to have, but I'm in no rush. random move ins are fun
