all nighter ideas

I just tend to travel back in time and then go back to regular time in the morning. I don't know, I just don't have a whole lot of patience and I have a terrible schedule so I never know when I'll be playing at night or during the day, since it's just adjusting by a few hours it's not a big deal.

Otherwise, you could just decorate your town, lay down paths, plant stuff, water all the plants that haven't been watered, fish, collect fruits and other items, hit all the rocks to find money, shake all the trees, etc. Since you can store those items (in a closet at home, if you don't have one, use the locker in the train station) it doesn't matter if your inventory fills up. Then you can go sell them the next day when Re-Tail opens again.

I visit dream towns, and set little objectives, such as only visit horror towns and count how many don't use the dolly, or only visit towns named *insert heavily used town name here, example: Kawaii/Hyrule* and chop down all the trees in them. It's really relaxing going on destructive rampages in dream towns.

Aren't some villagers usually awake until late, like Crankies? I guess you could visit them as well, though I've never tried since the villagers I like best go to sleep early

I usually visit dream towns at night, or do some island fishing and leave everything in the basket 'til the next morning. Or I'll take the time to design new paths and place them, or re-arrange a few fruit trees and whatnot... Sometimes I'll harvest my fruit or bamboo shoots and leave the baskets near re-tail for the next day.

Island hopping for good items or visiting dreams usually are good things to do for a while. Setting down paths and whatnot helps pass the time too.
