Yesterday’s problem was on Part 1 of the story, which was about the general details of each town. Today’s problem is on Part 2, which goes over how they built their towns. One of the key features of Animal Crossing: New Leaf is that you get to be the mayor of the town, which means you an add or remove structures from your town, change the looks of some structures, and enact laws that change part of the game’s gameplay. For that reason, the group of five friends built their town differently, and you can find out how they did it by solving this problem.

Part 2: Town Development

Excited by the new features in Animal Crossing: New Leaf, the group of five friends built their towns differently as they played the games. Other than decorating the landscape with flowers, trees, and ground patterns, they built different Public Works Projects (PWPs) in town. While they have some PWPs that are present in all towns (such as fountains and streetlights), there are PWPs that are unique to one town, which includes one special landmark and a few other special PWPs. Their choice of PWPs also influenced their town’s theme (one chose to base their town on the United States), and some towns have more PWPs built than others. They set up different ordinances too (ome chose not to have any active at all). From the information provided, can you find out which themed town has what ordinance, what special landmark, what other special PWPs, and how many PWPs are built?

  • Theme
    • United States
    • Seasonal
    • Fairy-Tale
    • Sci-Fi
    • Historical
  • Ordinance
    • Beautiful Town
    • Early Bird
    • Night Owl
    • Wealthy Town
    • No Ordinance
  • Special Landmark
    • Flower Clock
    • Lighthouse
    • Tower
    • Video Screen
    • Windmill
  • Other Special PWPs
    • Illuminated Projects (arch, clock, heart, tree)
    • Garden Projects (flower arch, topiaries, wisteria trellis)
    • Playground Projects (jungle gym, tire toy, sandbox)
    • Zen Projects (zen bell, zen garden, rack of rice, hot spring)
    • Custom Projects (custom design sign and custom cut-out standee)
  • Number of Projects
    • 13
    • 16
    • 19
    • 22
    • 25
Clues:

  1. The Sci-Fi themed town has the illuminated projects. The town with the windmill and the town with the zen projects have the Fairy-Tale theme and Historical theme, in some order.
  2. The lighthouse is built in the same town that enacted the Wealthy Town Ordinance. The town with the video screen (which is under either Early Bird or Night Owl ordinance) has 25 projects built.
  3. The Seasonal themed town has either the flower clock or the tower as its special landmark. If it has the flower clock, then it also has the other garden projects. If it has the tower, then it has the custom projects.
  4. Both the Historical themed town and the town with Night Owl ordinance in effect are the town with the flower clock and the town with the illuminated projects in some order. The Fairy-Tale themed town had either the lighthouse or the garden projects.
  5. The town with the playground projects has fewer projects built tham the town with Early Bird ordinance in effect, but more projects built than the Historical themed town.
  6. Neither the town with custom projects nor the town with the flower clock has Beautiful Town ordinance in effect (which has the least amount of PWPs).
  • When the last clue said “neither the town with custom projects nor the town with the flower clock has Beautiful Town ordinance in effect”, it means that the town with the flower clock doesn’t have Beautiful Town, the town with custom projects doesn’t have Beautiful Town, and the town with the flower clock doesn’t have custom projects.
  • The third clue mentions that the garden projects exist in the Seasonal themed town if it has the flower clock, and custom projects if it has the tower. This does not mean that the town with the flower clock has garden projects, and that the town with the tower has custon projects.
