ACNH unpopular opinions?

I like that the game includes cooking for those who enjoy it but I'm not really into. Ditto for the interior design of HHP. I'm glad to have access to the vacation isles but I don't really enjoy making the vacation homes.

isabelle should be the one who takes care of the bridges and stairs instead of nook. nook should’ve stayed with nook homes and he should’ve stayed with what he was doing in new leaf.

i know nintendo wanted to spice things up a bit but there was no need for harv’s shopping plaza. they all could’ve had their own shops on the island but saharah and redd could’ve just been left as wanderers.

now we can place furniture outside which includes benches, fountains, and streetlamps. that’s great but i miss public works projects.

Not sure if these are popular opinions but I dislike the blue airport, pocket camp seemed to have more of an interaction to items I put in my camp. Gathering DIY recipes can be tedious in the beginning, I’m impatient as a player and just want to speed through everything. I know that’s not how this game should be played.
I don’t like terraforming. I think it’s also time consuming, I wish it was more like Sims if I was to build or knock down walls it would do it at a wider scale and greyscale it to show which is being knocked than just hitting a shovel to an edge countless times and hoping I don’t create more to knock down.

I am honestly glad New Horizons gave us the creative freedom to place buildings, houses, shops, rivers, cliffs, furniture, etc. pretty much anywhere we see fit. People complain about how NH "gives us too much power", but I am actually happy about this. The lack of outdoor customization caused a lot of issues in New Leaf including poor house placement, destruction of paths (and worse...HYBRIDS) and having this power makes our islands more unique from each other.

The issue I have with the game is that it took a step back from other aspects, not the 'outdoor customization' aspect itself.
- In New Leaf, there were more options for customizing the exterior of your house (which we get to do in New Horizons, but the selection pales in comparison to New Leaf) and you could customize the train station and the town hall in NL.
- We also lack a lot of furniture sets that were in New Leaf ( I miss the lovely, regal, rococo, princess sets so much ;~; ) -- The cute set is somewhat similar to the lovely set, but it feels like a downgraded version of it.
- Villagers also feel watered down compared to New Leaf. I will give credit where credit is due: New Horizons does do things other games do not do (giving gifts in person, comforting a villager, etc.) But it feels like villagers were more interactive in New Leaf. I know NL game gets critiqued for having "watered down" villagers and I DO understand why. However, they still had stronger dialogue and letters. Plus, there was more favors and you got them more frequently.

I hope AC6 works out a way to strongly implement all of the important aspects we love so much in AC. ^_^

Customization of the outside of your house (Castle, Mansion, Modern, Zen) would have been perfect for this game given how many people I see create cityscapes or medieval islands.

I get why some were removed (Blue, Green), but others...I miss the GracieGrace sets.

I hate how you can’t make two level tall waterfalls without being forced to tier them. I just want a huge waterfall with a perfectly clean and even wall of water crashing down from above.

Right? Or wouldn't it be cool if we could terraform bottom tiers to create landscape bridges or little grottos? Or have a Nook bridge that could connect without a body of water below? Like a precarious dangling rope bridge.

I agree with those above. I can't remember with NL? But I think you could customize the outside of your house all the way without having a fully upgraded home. You need to upgrade all the way in NH to utilize the exterior options. It just feels so unnecessary to have so many restrictions on what is 'create the way you want!' game they were pitching it as.

I remember in NL I made a post apocalyptic house and changed the exterior to be downtrodden, but I didn't upgrade the home all the way. I didn't have a need to because all the ideas I wanted to do were implemented in 3-2 rooms? With NH I needed to upgrade all the houses all the way to get the exterior options and so some rooms are still empty.

I think it was in Halloween there was a tbt event for sharing your DA to be explored during a stream. I joined cause I wanted to share mine, but I hated how there were so many unfinished rooms I didn't intend to have, but had to be upgraded so I could use the exterior features.

The game is really only good if you're into decorating, which is a shame it was so stripped down and lost the slice of life aspect of it. If it weren't for the pandemic and social media craze surrounding the game at the time it wouldn't had done as well as it had. At least I don't think so. I remember launch month+ Social media turned it into a rat race to share everyone's latest creation. It kinda turned me off from the fandom side cause everyone was getting too consumerism about it.

Well of course everyone wanted to share their creations for months after launch. We were all literally forced to stay locked up inside our homes unless we absolutely needed to leave to go buy groceries (during specific hours) or work a shift as a necessary worker. If it weren’t for NH keeping everyone preoccupied I’m pretty sure the murder rate worldwide would have gone up 100 times more in a month than one non pandemic year. The game was literally the only thing keeping us from going insane and full postal.

I don't mean it that way. I think it's great that many were able to share a great outlet during a trying time and share their islands or visit each others. I personally didn't get that since my job at the time was chaotic and so when I had the time to really sit down and play a lot of my friends had already stopped playing which was kinda sad (for me) I wanted to play with them lol.

What I mean was that some had this overwhelming pressure exacerbated by social media and online that imo made a slice of life game to be a tad more stressful and competitive. A lot of media users were trying to race to the ultimate island. If that's what the majority wanted that's fine, but I dipped from social media when my feed was getting barraged by this level of competitiveness. The racing to not only get a 5star but ultimate island because they saw everyone else doing it and then lamenting how their island can't compete. It just felt too stressful to me for how chill I played the other entries so I stayed away.

Ooohh I definitely have some unpopular opinions. Maybe? Idk actually! Some of my opinions may come off a bit aggressively but I promise I love the game and don't take it that seriously!
  • I don't like how often the villagers sing and I wouldn't mind if they did away with this feature altogether. I feel like it should be much rarer than it is in order for it to feel special. It was a very cute feature at first but it gets annoying really fast, especially since they sing the same song all the time unless you manually change it. What makes it worse is that there's nothing you can do to stop it. Hitting them with the net is only a temporary fix 😅 they go right back to doing it no matter how many times you hit them or push them somewhere else.
  • I don't like the outfit changes (specifically the rain outfits). I wish the villagers would just stay in their signature outfits and use umbrellas. I wouldn't mind this at all if the developers picked rain outfits and accessories that actually fit with the villager's color palettes. This prob only bothers me though since I'm super picky about colors in general. I also just think the rain hats are ugly.
  • I do not like Harvey's island and I wish the NPC plaza could've been attached to the island directly like the campground was in New Leaf. I hate using the airport for anything.
  • I hope the Dodos end up being exclusive to New Horizons. I've farmed NMT islands way too many times to ever want to deal with Orville again, sorry!! We need less loading screens when possible, never more.
  • The Able Sisters are getting a little bland as NPCs and I wish they would've done something different with them or added new characters to work the clothing shop. I love their direction of replacing certain NPCs with new ones like they did with Flick, Daisy Mae, and CJ so I think it would be cute if they added a relative of Gracie Grace to run or help with the clothing shop in the next game.
  • Most of the Sanrio villagers are a disappointment design wise, such as the Hello Kitty one being a gorilla... ugh. I think a dog villager being a Hello Kitty super-fan would've been fun and cute. I don't think any of them are ugly or anything, I just think they could have had much cuter designs than the ones we have. Etoile, Toby, and Chai are pretty cute though.
  • I wouldn't mind if they re-used certain lines from old games in future games to help with dialogue variety. What I wouldn't give to hear "You're looking as cool as a fair number of cucumbers" from a smuggie again. 💜
