I am honestly glad New Horizons gave us the creative freedom to place buildings, houses, shops, rivers, cliffs, furniture, etc. pretty much anywhere we see fit. People complain about how NH "gives us too much power", but I am actually happy about this. The lack of outdoor customization caused a lot of issues in New Leaf including poor house placement, destruction of paths (and worse...HYBRIDS) and having this power makes our islands more unique from each other.
The issue I have with the game is that it took a step back from other aspects, not the 'outdoor customization' aspect itself.
- In New Leaf, there were more options for customizing the exterior of your house (which we get to do in New Horizons, but the selection pales in comparison to New Leaf) and you could customize the train station and the town hall in NL.
- We also lack a lot of furniture sets that were in New Leaf ( I miss the lovely, regal, rococo, princess sets so much ;~; ) -- The cute set is somewhat similar to the lovely set, but it feels like a downgraded version of it.
- Villagers also feel watered down compared to New Leaf. I will give credit where credit is due: New Horizons does do things other games do not do (giving gifts in person, comforting a villager, etc.) But it feels like villagers were more interactive in New Leaf. I know NL game gets critiqued for having "watered down" villagers and I DO understand why. However, they still had stronger dialogue and letters. Plus, there was more favors and you got them more frequently.
I hope AC6 works out a way to strongly implement all of the important aspects we love so much in AC. ^_^
Right? Or wouldn't it be cool if we could terraform bottom tiers to create landscape bridges or little grottos? Or have a Nook bridge that could connect without a body of water below? Like a precarious dangling rope bridge.I hate how you can’t make two level tall waterfalls without being forced to tier them. I just want a huge waterfall with a perfectly clean and even wall of water crashing down from above.
Well of course everyone wanted to share their creations for months after launch. We were all literally forced to stay locked up inside our homes unless we absolutely needed to leave to go buy groceries (during specific hours) or work a shift as a necessary worker. If it weren’t for NH keeping everyone preoccupied I’m pretty sure the murder rate worldwide would have gone up 100 times more in a month than one non pandemic year. The game was literally the only thing keeping us from going insane and full postal.Right? Or wouldn't it be cool if we could terraform bottom tiers to create landscape bridges or little grottos? Or have a Nook bridge that could connect without a body of water below? Like a precarious dangling rope bridge.
I agree with those above. I can't remember with NL? But I think you could customize the outside of your house all the way without having a fully upgraded home. You need to upgrade all the way in NH to utilize the exterior options. It just feels so unnecessary to have so many restrictions on what is 'create the way you want!' game they were pitching it as.
I remember in NL I made a post apocalyptic house and changed the exterior to be downtrodden, but I didn't upgrade the home all the way. I didn't have a need to because all the ideas I wanted to do were implemented in 3-2 rooms? With NH I needed to upgrade all the houses all the way to get the exterior options and so some rooms are still empty.
I think it was in Halloween there was a tbt event for sharing your DA to be explored during a stream. I joined cause I wanted to share mine, but I hated how there were so many unfinished rooms I didn't intend to have, but had to be upgraded so I could use the exterior features.
The game is really only good if you're into decorating, which is a shame it was so stripped down and lost the slice of life aspect of it. If it weren't for the pandemic and social media craze surrounding the game at the time it wouldn't had done as well as it had. At least I don't think so. I remember launch month+ Social media turned it into a rat race to share everyone's latest creation. It kinda turned me off from the fandom side cause everyone was getting too consumerism about it.
