ACNH Pet Peeves and Petty Complaints Thread

OMG can we please have mean villagers again? I feel i have just talked about this since I joined the forum, but current gameplay at ACNH is sooo good and convenient but maaan I want my cranky villager to call me an idiot or getting angry for me forgetting he was visiting AAAAAAAH!

Back in the day of the GameCube version and mean villagers there was at least one parent who got very upset because their young child was being yelled at in-game by a cranky villager. They were so ticked off they took the game disc and snapped it then got hold of Nintendo. So herein lies the problem: Animal Crossing reaches such a broad demographic that it's just not cool to make a little kid cry like that. Also, I'm not so sure that I, even as a senior citizen, would take being yelled at by a game character very well at this point either. I try to be as kind as I can to people in the real world, there's way too much cranky and abuse already going around in this world.

I do get the part which it might not be ideal for all demographics, indeed as a kid I would get anxiety when I had to send a mail at night because I didn't want to annoy Phyllis, but they started like that, almost as if they were aiming for the mature public (and they weren't wrong on thinking adults would enjoy this escape ) , it is like with the original sims in which all were quite rude, but that rudeness is funny because on how out of place it is, like imagine a full grown bull-man making a tantrum about you associating him with a color they didn't like but gave you as option to. I do get that IRL we do see horrible people around, but the worst people would put a fake smile and throw you under the bus with corporate professionalism, so seeing brutal honesty feels hilarious to me

I don't recall original Sims being like that, except maybe Mrs. Crumplebottom, and everyone else it was based on personality points. And the jerks, well, they were still jerks by Sims 3 (that was the last one I played but not because of that).

As for that 'full grown bull-man' and the temper tantrum? That would be my father-in-law (now deceased but the fall-out didn't die with him; to this day you can still see the trauma in his kids and they're not young people any more). I had way more than enough of that kind of thing in the real world I prefer not to play it for pretend. So yeah, I just like my cozy games to be cozy little places the real world can't get into.

Hmmm. I am kind of in the middle when it comes to rude villagers. I wouldn't mind cranky and snooty villagers acting slightly rude to you when your friendship level with them is at the baseline (neutral/starting point). However, I don't think it should be anything too over-the-top when you haven't even provoked them. This especially shouldn't be the case for high friendships.

I do like the idea of a negative friendship system. If you push villagers around, give them trash, hit them with your net, etc. repeatedly, then your friendship level will extend below the baseline, causing your friendship to go into the negative. I like to think of it like The Sims franchise. There was a friendship bar with two sides: If you were nice to other sims, the right part of the meter would fill up with green. But if you were rude to other sims, the left side would fill up with red.

I know WW and CF did this slightly. If you were nice to villagers, they would bow or wave back when you waved at them. If you were MEAN to them, they would shiver or scowl at you when you tried to wave at them. And in CF, the villagers would talk negatively about you to other player characters. I want to see stuff like THIS again, but with way more indications, such as dialogue that is exclusive to negative friendships. If players want more intense rudeness (that is still within reason for a family-friendly game, OFC), they would have to earn it by being mean first.

I would love some sort of friendship tracker - like The Sims games have - in future Animal Crossing games (but more in-depth and nuanced), where we can check how good (or bad) our friendship with each villager is.

I have said this before, but I love the idea of certain dialogue, letter replies, etc. being dependent on friendship levels (whether positive, neutral, or negative).

With that being said, I think a lot of players don't necessarily want villagers to be rude. They just want them to be more realistic. In New Horizons, they hardly show any emotion and their dialogue is a bit bland. I love how older games have conversations that would leave villagers feeling sad, angry, or hell--happy. Sometimes, it wouldn't even be a choice in a conversation. They would just think of something that made them feel a certain emotion.

The tourists have very quickly gotten annoying to me. They're always in the area where I'm trying to teraform and design my island, so I'm constantly having to shove them out of my way. Yes, I'm glad you're enjoying your stay and all, but for the love of coconuts let me work!

Ohhh yesss actually they were hilariously rude, for example when someone was trying to play the guitar with low creativity points and someone would "boo" them or when you talk at the phone and they start screaming over and how to forget the hilarious excuses when they didn't want to visit you, honestly to me the cozyness wouldn't be lost if they spice the our villagers a little bit more, at least to give the option instead of "dificulty lvl" it would be "how hard are them gonnabe to deal with" lol

This please! even as I mentioned to UpFalls, how about a system that their dificulty lvl would be basically how hard are these villagers to deal with, and part of the challenge is going from someone who would be like Phyllis when interacting to you to becoming more more kind and open, kind of like the progress you get with Sable

I probably complained about this before, but I hate it when I want to/need to give something to a villager, but I can’t, because they’re sitting down — and sometimes they sit down for extended periods of time.

This isn’t just them sitting on the floor either, sometimes they sit in the town hall plaza. And I have to reload my game to shuffle up my villagers. Why couldn’t Nintendo just make it to where we can still give items to villagers even when they’re sitting? >_<

THIS! It actually happened to me yesterday. Decorating hotels room can be fun, but the tourists themselves can be a bit much. >_<
