• The 2025 limited edition candy cane is now available! This sparkling moonlight-blue candy cane wrapped in a glowing purple ribbon fastened by a golden star ornament can be found in the shop through December 26th. In related news, our upcoming New Year’s event will begin one day later than previously announced, starting Sunday, December 28th.

AC Pronuncing Challenge!

Going back to the Merengue bit, I say Mer-ang, like a lot of others. It's like the dessert, not the Spanish dance :)

Oh, I have one I've been curious about for a while - How do you guys pronounce "Cheri," as in the peppy cub villager Cheri?

Ever since GC I've been saying it like "cherry," the fruit. I thought it fit because she is red like a cherry. But with the release of New Leaf and the introduction of Cherry the dog villager, I am wondering if they intended her name to be said like "sherry," rather than "cherry."

I really prefer her name to be said like "cherry" and I still catch myself doing it all the time.

Edit: I originally wrote that her default shirt in GC was the cherry shirt, but then realized that wasn't true, my mistake.

Good observation... I say it like cherry, but now you have me thinking otherwise.

I think it's supposed to be like "ma cherie" / "mon cheri" (male version). I swear though I've heard cherie/cheri pronounced with the 'ch' sound and 'sh' sound mixed together/in between rather than the straight up 'sh' sound. Any fran?ais/francophiles want to confirm?

Oh I always thought it was pronounced like cherry but now you make me wonder if it's pronounced otherwise too... O:
though I have her in my town, and she does respond to being called "cherry" so idk...

Merengue is most definitely mer-en-gay because of its spelling. Archaeopteryx.... I don't even say it in my head when I read it. It's just -blank space- and then the rest of the sentence. Too much going on in that word for my little dyslexic brain. x.x

I think Hippeux is one of the hardest to pronounce. It has multiple ways to pronounce that, and that is annoying.

Oh-laugh
Meh-rang
Pie-eh-tro
Fray-ya
Bar-bra
Zuck-er
Hippo
Ju-li-un

I'll edit the rest later.

Oh well. Can't be bothered to edit it.

I think Hippeux is one of the hardest to pronounce. It has multiple ways to pronounce that, and that is annoying.

Isn't it Hip-you?

I always had problems with pronouncing Deirdre. Embarassing considering she's my favorite villager ///
