A strange request from a villager...

So I see Punchy (one of my favorite villagers) walking around, so I talk to him. He asks me for a cicada.
But cicadas aren't in season until July. It's June 26th. Why did he ask me for a cicada?

I am pretty sure they ask for things that aren't available too, I had a villager ask me for a coelcanth on a sunny day. I laughed and said heck nope.

The lantern fly, he's talking about that.
Sometimes my villagers asked for that same thing and I gave them the lantern fly and they accepted it.

You can get a fly anytime if you have garbage or a rotten turnip on the ground But lantern fly = cicada? What?? This game makes no sense sometimes

Flies can be caught flying around spoiled turnips, and I believe trash items as well.

it says this on the animal crossing wiki. so yeah, lantern flies count as cicadas.
