This is pretty stupid and I don't really expect anyone to have tried this.. but if you have, I'm very interested in what happened. Lets say you have a villager on your island (anyone, but lets say Judy just to get a name) and your friend has Judy in boxes on their island. Now, if you didn't have Judy already and visited your friend to talk to her, she would offer to move to your island.
But in this silly scenario you DO have her already. Now, what would she say during your visit to your friends island when talking to her?... 🤔 I assume you can not have two Judy's. 😂

Would she just not suggest moving to your island at all?
Or does she already "know" you since you have her on your island already?

Does anyone have any experience or thoughts on the matter? 😆

I'd be interested to see what the villager says because I've thought of this edge case myself. 😆

My guess is that the villager wouldn't even suggest moving to the new island because these are two different instances of the same villager. I think this logic has to be there; otherwise, we would see villagers that already reside on our island spawn when we go Mystery Island hopping, for example.

I think Judy would not know you, but she wouldn't ask to move in to your island either... it is just a theory doe I dont have proof or anything

Yeah my guess too is that she wouldn't suggest it. That she wouldn't appear on the mystery island is understandable I think since it's within my own game in my save data. But perhaps my friends copy of the game will somehow know what villagers I have at home on my island to prevent certain conversations like moving to occur? 🤔 If so, I think that's an interesting "data exchange" or whatever I should call it, that goes on in the background. 😂

That would be my guess! Generally a villager won't recognize you even if they're one you've had before... unless they're literally the exact same villager that moved to a friend's island and you go to see them again. But IDK what she'd say to avoid moving in... maybe she'd just have normal moving dialogue and wouldn't offer the island? Same as if you didn't have an open space?

Hehe, it's definitely very complicated stuff. XD Imagine if we could have 10 instances of the same villager on our island. 😆

more interesting scenario you have 2 empty plots, judy comes to your camp and you ask her to move in, then you go to another island and ask her to move in while in boxes. neither is currently residing on your island, but would the game recognize the same villager already bought a plot of land?

Oo, that is very interesting indeed! 🤔🤯

I'm pretty sure if you have villager in the process of moving in, you can't ask another to move in, even if you have another spot open, and even if it's not a villager you have/are going to have?

I actually think that is a really good guess

i’ve seen some people share what happens in this situation - the moving villager won’t recognize you but also won’t ask to move to your island. the game will recognize that you already have that villager but other than that, the villager that’s moving is different from the one who lives on your island, so they’ll just treat you like any other villager does when they meet you for the first time c’:

I have an experience to share which is somewhat relating to your question.

Just recently, I had someone adopt Pekoe in my island. (Because I want to search for Judy via island hopping method.)

Since I have her Amiibo, it's easy to bring her back. So, I decided to invite her back in my campsite since she already left.

The game gave me an error that she's not available as a campsite villager. So technically, the game still registers her presence even after moving away on the same day you invited her back.
