A new duplication glitch has discovered!

Aww Money! It makes anything possible. Greed will make people find a way. I am not talking bells. I am talking real world money. Often times these dupe glitches are found by people looking to sell in-game items for real world money. Gold Sellers (for those that MMO)!

I just hope people don't blame Nintendo for this again. Pisses me off when they do. "Oh games release with so many glitches these day. These companies are only out for a quick buck. Blah blah blah!" This game was created and tested a lot. They did not actively go out of there way to look for every possible way to cheat. That would be insane to try and do. Game are far more complex these days as well. Though ask a speed runner if they know anything about gold games and exploits. They might not be duping in game items, but there are plenty to go around.

Argh! Sorry for the rant. Just getting ready for the wave of blame that will surly hit the fan. :D

In the end though. Forget the market value. Trade what you want for what you want. That has always been the way it is. If your not out to make money. No amount of duping will affect you. If you are not out to get rich. Then duping will only make things easier on you. People who get upset over the duping are upset cause the value dropped on what they want to sell. I don't need to make money. I just look for stuff I want and duping makes that really easy for me.

So there we go. Both sides of the coin (in a ways).
I definitely think people are a little harsh on devs (and QA testers too). devs don't have absolute control over the game; many times devs/QA are aware of bugs in a game, but there's nothing you can do when the higher ups are telling you that the game needs to be shipped now. furthermore, from what I've read this is a dupe method that is present in previous Animal Crossing titles too, and it's one that is basically impossible to fix. so please go easy on the devs this time, it's really not their fault!

anyway, pretty much every game ever tells you not to touch the power button while it's saving, so yeah, don't do that.

This duping glitch isn’t possible or at least not simple to fix like the others as you’re basically exploiting the autosave feature itself before it fully completes.

The general point is that this glitch unlike the others before it, has a real chance at corrupting your save data. I don’t think it’ll be as common as the others unless people are really THAT greedy and are willing to potentially lose their save data over getting additional items.

>Glitch involves interrupting the auto-save feature

That is a hard nope for me.

Also I'm pretty sure this glitch has been around since the beginning, it is just you know...DANGEROUS, hence only appear now after the others have been patched.

Were the New Leaf duplication patches ever completely fixed? I'm going to be honest, I regularly participated in the Tumblr giveaways where a team of people would give out rare items (including 7/11 items) and there's no way those items could have come into the game legitimately.

Unless Nintendo is very good about patching all of them in a timely manner, there's a big chance the glitches will persist. If it is true that this new one has a big risk of corrupting save files, I'm not sure how widespread it will be if people are not willing to take the risk, but I guess only time will tell.

i feel like maybe we shouldnt post when new ones are found to reduce widespread knowledge / research on how to do it. i feel like it just further snowballs the exploitation of the economy. many wouldve been oblivious to this new glitch otherwise :0

Now that someone gave a little more info on it. I do remember it. I admit to using that exploit on past games. Lucked out and never ruined my game. Only did it a few times. To make a few extra bells. I really did not need to use it. I am a bit fan of Time Travel. So getting stuff and making money was never a problem really. :D

Is this the mail box one or a whole new different discovery?

About 2 months into the game and there is so many glitches :( if I didn't play online, I probably wouldn't be as worried but since I do bleh lol.

I don't think so. Depending on when those giveaways took place, they may have just had a hacked 3DS as it eventually became possible to spawn items out of nowhere.

It's another one, but it's not really new since it's been part of the series for a few titles (seeing as it behaves the same way, according to some of the previous posts).

Quite a few people I have encountered insist on paying NMT for a lot, and I kind of feel uncomfortable accepting it because it might be glitched. I really want to be paired for my services with something of worth, but that might not happen for me anytime soon.

I agree with almost everything you said. But I will say, I could care less what the state of the economy is or what is valued how. I am still upset about dupe glitches because I just don’t want a duped item in my game ever, for any reason. I am very averse to cheating (my brother calls me AC lawful good), I never accept any benefits or items gained via TT and I don’t want items gained via glitches either. Even if they’re free. I would rather earn it fair and square. And I don’t think I’m the only one who feels this way, so there are reasons to not like the glitch if you play online with others.

if I thought everyone who was doing the duping would be honest about it when trading/selling the duped items I’d probably be a lot less upset, but that’s not really the case since as you said, most of them are doing it for real world profit. So it makes me wary of trading with others, which is a part of the game I love, so it’s sad for me.

I totally respect that. I am not against your way of thinking at all. Though, sorry to say that you can never trade with anyone. Even your brother (if they play). Being against Duping I can see but if your also against Time Travel. Then you can't accept trades of any kind. Not to say every item is gained by dupe or TT, but they are exactly the same items. TT gained items are the same no matter what day they are gotten. The only items you never want to get are altered items. Like the Star Trees. Players have worked a way to alter save files so that they can make Money Trees that grow Star Fragments. Not really a great way to earn Star Fragments. They look nice though but very hacked.

In truth though I am accepting off all ways of enjoy the game when it comes to your own personal game play. The only thing I am against is cheats/hacks that give players unfair advantages in game play with other players. This whole situation is a bit in the middle. It's not like an MMO or Minecraft. They are not using hacks or bots or such to give them game play advantages in the same way. The most these cheats are doing is upsetting the economy. Which in almost any game, is never stable no matter what you try to do.

In the end. I just hope everyone can continue to enjoy the game. I will. Dupes or not. :D

Wow people are actually doing this? I’ve done this accidentaly before weeks ago. Didn’t think it would be considered a duplication glitch. Instead of duplicating items, I lost more nmts lol I wanted to buy watering service and what happened is that I gave them the nmt payment first but they dc’d. So they didn’t get the nmt payment and i was out of one nmt -.-‘

I'm p sure the dupe glitch in NL was never patched at all, at least not before I stopped playing which was around the Welcome Amiibo patch.

I'm honestly just wishing people on this forum would be more respectful of the QA testers but I don't ever see that happening lol. These people literally push to find any kind of glitch they can take advantage of.

I know a few people in QA at Nintendo and they work hard af. There's also the fact that we're in the middle of a pandemic rn, Nintendo's contact center and Redmond campus have completely shut down, and QA testers can't even work from home because they have to work in a completely sealed off environment.

I‘m aware they’re identical and I try not to quibble too much about if, say, someone TTed to speed up a catalog order process. Where I personally draw the line for myself is taking advantage of turnip prices gained through TT or special event items that are supposed to be seasonal. like I want the frozen stuff so badly, but I will wait until winter because it bothers me to get it via TT. It’s just my own personal moral code, I decide based on what I’m comfortable with or not and I am well aware the majority of players do some TT. I just have to decide how much I’m okay with gaining from those players.

and yeah, anything that was outright hacked or duped, I’m against morally and also afraid of since you never what the ripple effects in your game will be from that.

This glitch works by interrupting the auto save? Not really surprising. If you try it while knowing these risks, you should not be surprised if your save gets corrupted and can't be restored.

Boy oh boy I sure am glad that the reason we don’t have cloud saves is to keep people from figuring out how to dupe items! It would just be the pits if people kept discovering a new duping glitch every week regardless of wether or not other people have a way to back up their 500+ hour towns!

Isn’t wonderful that Nintendo has such an incredible knack for these things?
