How many ISPs does Canada have? Is it just a government monopoly? That would explain the lack of quality.

What is this? I get 500GB for $109-AUS

which is like $55-US??

Ok, double post, because I've looked more into this, and now I understand things are seriously ****ed up, and this could even effect me(a US citizen) in the future if it doesn't stop. So apparently it costs less than a penny for internet service providers to send a gb of information to you. Less than penny! And if you go over your allowance it could cost between 1 and 4 dollars. Preposterous? Yes.

I... I can't believe you jumped right to this conclusion.... I am fairly certain there are many in canada as I can't find a straight answer, but nothing seems to reference the government...

But yeah this is an awful restriction. It is one thing to limit to what you can provide, it is another to charge extravagant amounts for such a small amount of data.... though I could make money by offering to download stuff onto a hard drive and sending it to my poor internet starved Canadian brothers....

There are a lot, the problem being though that only a few ISPs own all of the network lines in Canada meaning that almost all other ISPs are renting those lines from the same provider or two. They are now going to charge these small ISPs who are renting their lines the same they charge retail customers. Basically, there will be no unmetered internet to go to because all ISPs will be charged massive fees by the main ISPs who own the lines that they must keep their customers limited to survive. TLDR: we're all screwed. thanks crtc for looking out for consumers by allowing this to happen... http://stopthemeter.ca
