A Hybrid Tier list based on how difficult they are to breed from scratch.

Sweet, I got a black tulip without trying but was really confused because I forgot hybrids were a thing lmao.

oof thanks for making this! i’ve been trynna breed golden roses for a few weeks now and it’s more difficult than i thought it’d be lmaoo

Some tips for Gold Roses:

-They can come from singular black roses - not just pairs. So watering the singles with no roses around them gives you more chances that they could spawn.

-You only need to water each black rose with the gold can once to activate the chance of the gold rose. After that, using a normal can on the days afterwards is fine, if you desire to preserve your gold can.

-Apperantly, the center flower of the gold can's watering area is the one that most likely gives the gold rose.

That said, I only started my attempt to get the Gold Roses just now, and I know it will take a while.

are blue roses really that hard in NH? i got one by accident this time around. in NL it took me ages.

unless there's an easy purple tulip method I don't know of, I thought that purple tulips and black cosmos were relatively similar in genotype? (ie. same ease of breeding)

are roses your native flower? you could get them in one step from mystery island oranges before those got removed

xedit: though no, you can get blue roses with
white x white = purple
purple x seedbag red = pink (has to be this specific combo)
pink x seedbag yellow = hybrid red
hybrid red x hybrid red = blue

OHHHHh it was definitely the mystery island oranges, i had a bunch of those early in the game. that explains it! i was baffled when a blue popped up one morning but didn’t question it lol.

i love how i am drowning in green mums and purple tulips but i am having major difficulties with the purple roses. let's not even start with the purple hyacinths and windflowers, or the blue roses..

Black Cosmos are annoying this time around:

Red + Yellow = Orange (100%)

Orange + Orange = Black, but the odds are different: Some Pairs have a 6.25% chance, but some pairs have a lower chance at under 4.7%.

Increasing the chance is difficult - you can try making more orange cosmos from the original oranges, but some made that way don't have a chance of giving black ones at all. Telling the good orange from the bad are next to impossible, too.

Orange Tulips, though, have a more fixed shot at giving Purple ones - always 6.25% or higher - and new Oranges you get from them may have a much better chance.

I was today years-old when I found out you couldn’t breed green mums from purple mums parents from white mums… hahaha… meanwhile I breed 2 purple windflowers by accident

That method guarantees hybrid reds, but those only have a 1/64 chance - which is too low. I'm doing this method instead:

Seed Red + Seed Yellow = Orange
Orange + Seed Yellow = More Oranges: Some might increase the odds later.

Seed White + Seed Yellow = Hybrid White
Hybrid White Pairs = Hybrid Purple: 2/3rds of them are good, but use them all anyways.

Orange + Hybrid Purple = Hybrid Oranges
Hybrid Orange Pairs = Blue Roses (1/16 chance), or Red Roses that have a 1 in 4 chance of giving blues.

there's like 10 different ways to get to blue roses, I prefer that method since there's little/no ambiguity to what is what assuming you keep your pairs well separated. (my brain is bad at remembering which one is the seed white and which one is the hybrid, in your second step for example)

in the end its all about playing genetics, so once you get one, the rest are relatively easy

That I totally get. My trick to prevent that is simply positioning: For the 'White + yellow = white ' Step, I entirely block the white side with fencing and paths - so that I know that the new white I want will be on the yellow side of the pair - and assures it won't be a clone.

Looks about right for the most part, but I don't seem to ever be able to grow Purple Mums naturally. I had to buy all of the ones I have from other users on the forums. White Mums planted from seed bags only ever spawn more White Mums for me. Bummer, since I want way more of the Purples.

Ugh, black cosmos are the bane of my existence right now. Purple tulips and pansies are also being a bit stubborn.

I've just started working on roses, having got 1 black. That should be a fun trip to get to blue.

I have a single black cosmos and I got that from somebody. Thought I'd just water and duplicate it. Well, that didn't work. Also trying to properly breed them, no luck so far.
Black roses on the other hand. Ooo boy.

Been working on the Blue Roses and boy has it not been fun at all. I'm just glad once I get one they'll be able to slowly spread.

The blue rose proved to be my most difficult, but once I had the first, it was all downhill. Purple windflowers and pansies were also a bit of a challenge, but again, all it takes is one. I no longer have any regular flowers on my island, having seemingly been overrun with hybrids. I'm almost at the point where I'll have to start selling them to Nook's.
