i started up my second town today, and it said my save data was corrupted ouo

after staring at it in shock for about five minutes, i turned the power on and off, and it came back /wipes sweat off brow

honestly, i wouldn't have been too bothered though i've bought a lot of villagers for this town, but i am holding marshal for someone and i would have felt terrible if i lost him.

has this ever happened to you? i know corrupted save data is an issue but i hear it's not exactly a thing on cartridges, which is what mine is. nintendo really needs to let us backup our save data, ugh.

I've got both a digital copy and a hard copy of the game, I got the hard copy because I heard about corruption possibilities (don't know how much higher the probability is of corrupting though).

Wait so it's more probable that my data will be corrupted since I have a digital download? O:
while googling about the issue a while ago, a lot of people were saying that a corrupted cartridge was basically unheard of. i can't tell you how true or untrue that is though, since it almost just happened to me >/////<

The only ways I've heard people corrupt digital copies was either screwing around/trying to copy the files on a computer or redownloading the digital copy on a second SD card (it only corrupts the original if you save on the second file).
For hard copies, they're usually more susceptible to physical harm like dropping the system/game card.
For both versions, powering off while saving usually corrupts.

Whoa that's intense. o.o' I probably would have teared up, ngl. I probably would have started over right off the bat, I didn't know you could try to save corrupted towns by turning on and off like that.

i didn't either. and i'm not saying it's some sort of miracle method either. it was a fluke, i'm sure ; w ; at the time, i was just thinking that i didn't want to deal with starting over, so i turned it off, then turned it back on just to see. and yeah. /throws confetti

Wait you saved your town from corruption by turning it off and back on?
omg when you say it like that, it makes me sound like a superhero.

You need to get your story out there. You could prevent people from losing their towns

i'd really rather not, honestly ; x ; people in the animal crossing fandom can be quite gullible, and if this spreads around, then it might work for one or two people, and they'll start advertising it as a "PERFECT CURE TO SAVE DATA CORRUPTION!!!!!!!1" and who knows, some kids might try to break their games on purpose to test it, then when it doesn't work, it'll all come back to me.

my 3ds has been acting funny lately, and i'm sure that's what the cause of said corruption was, and i'm not actually some genius who discovered something awesome, as much as i'd like to be v.v;

this thread was merely meant to be a strange anecdote and nothing more, i assure you.
