A experiment about Marshall, and other popular villagers.

I'd rather try to have a town almost as original as possible. Having a town full of Tier-1 and 2 villagers is ridiculous because of how many people have the exact same villager in their town. I like to see diversity, not carbon copies of towns.

or people can just get the villagers they like because they like them, since tiers were merely constructed for the purpose of trading
quite the novel idea

Yeah, I tend to think that people who go on and on about how much they dislike a popular villager are kinda...protesting too much. ;) But then again, some people get all defensive and butthurt when someone merely says that they don't see the hype about a particular villager, which is just as annoying as "hipsters," imo.

When my husband rolled his town, Beau was one of his starters. Then Marshal moved in via the campsite, and then I procured Julian for him. His town is as "mainstream" as it can get. Yet, his absolute favorite villager is still Tank. So, although anecdotal, I think that is confirmation that tastes are a little more complex than the binary of popular or unpopular.

i like you. you have smarts. although apple scares the **** out of me. cheekers, no

as for your second thing about your hubby -- i think it also has to do with who you met first. did your hubby have tank first? because like, i formed REALLY SUPER STRONG BONDS with my first few villagers since the game was new to me, so it definitely has to do with that as well.

Very very true.
I am just happy Julian ends up being a Smug since I don't really like the smug Personality.
Jock is ranked lowest for me and Smug is right above it... when they hit on the female character sometimes it can be a little creepy. ^^'
Just glad I found a villager in both of those personalities I can not only tolerate but like. =3

o: may i ask why? interesting, never thought id see the day.

tbh at first I was one of those people who just let villagers move in, no dreamies, make fun of people with dreamies, like the hipsters of acnl

then I visited a friends town and my mind was blown lol

i kinda spoiled myself with dreamies, at first I only wanted julian because he was popular at first, but i grew to like him when he randomly moved into wood rose.

tbh the only reason i want the sloppy set was because it seemed so rare, and unobtainable
i do keep my originals merry and skye, who i love, but everyone else has to go

i don't really feel the need to stand out in a game i'll probably stop playing in a few months...
i don't want to be original, just let me have a unicorn, blue deer, pastel deer, purple cat and a marshmallow squirrel and I'm set

I'm not saying there's anything bad about it in general, but man, I, myself, prefer the less popular villagers over the more popular ones any day.

Very insightful and makes me think of the saying, "You always want what you can't have." for some reason.
But it is very good to be honest with yourself. ^-^

ahh i see! interesting! well, i really appreciate your honesty, i think it gives me a fresh look into psychology i dont often delve into. im not quite sure how to react or respond yet, since im still mulling things over. XD but your point of view is valid, just like everyone elses, so good on you! uvu keep doin what you doin~

ahh, i mightve misread; my apologies! im not so good at detecting tones over text... or in general, actually. but i just dont see much reason to hate on something just cause its popular i guess? ive never really been one to do so, so its just a little confusing as to why people do. i get being tired of seeing it, totally. but i just dont really let it affect me i guess.

Ha, I guess I can see that. But I think of Smugs as "confirmed bachelors"- ultimately harmless and probably not batting for my team anyway, so it's all good. :D

Apple is ultra creepy, yes! I met her in a dream town and couldn't stop staring at her in fascinated horror. Now I kinda like her- she has a certain mania to her!

Anyway, you are right- Tank was the first villager to actively befriend my hubby, and now he's a lifelong resident of his town. What interests me though are people who get rid of their starter villagers while sounding regretful about it, but consider it "trading up." My husband will never, ever get rid of Tank- it would be impossible for him to conceive of trading for a more popular villager.

at first i didn't like smugs too much (now i love them)

what triggered the love was what they say when you haven't talked to them for a while.

"Ahhh purple, I haven't seen you for a while. Were you hiding from me to (mischievous glint thingy) practice your sweet dance moves?"

they're just so dorky ahhh

ohh thank you ^.^

i try not to let games control my life, just focus on whats outside the computer lol

That's very good.
Being someone who games too much and who has a husband who games a lot too... we have a problem with that sometimes ourselves. XP

And animal crossing is one of those games you can stop playing for 3-6 months and completely forget about then randomly remember one day and be like "oh ****" and freak out since you think you have lost all your villagers and flowers in a panic start to think whether to play again and if you do to play in current town or just reset without checking it out ... kinda game.
I almost wonder if the developers almost intended for the game to be that way. >.>

Fun fact, she randomly came to my house in the middle of the night at about 12 AM in the summer when I was redecorating, and I honestly freaked out seeing a huge text bubble and hearing a knock at my door in New Leaf that said "Hey Zach! I WANT TO PLAY!!!!!!!"

i don't usually worry too much for acnl now (before i played like every day) i just take my time and have fun

i've never really delved into psychology too much actually

...
Insights on why I find Smug hitting on the females creepy to the point do rank them so low ::
I personally have been stalked 3 times... 1st guy threatened to kill me if I wouldn't be with him, 2nd actually fled the country running from the law ((I think he actually killed a guy...)), 3rd was 10-ish years older than me and my mom actually recommended me to just date him already... my elder cousin who is much older and was the guy's friend stepped in and made it all stop.

So... in real life or in games I'm not to fond of any hitting on or "cat calling" of any sorts that are directed towards me... for obvious personal reasons. ^^'

But yes, with some of the smug villagers, like julian, it is much easier to imagine them batting for the other team. XP

Holy f***ing shizzz...What a moment, what a world. :D

i know, i got the game in june, played for a bit, and didn't pick it up until feb. this year. I try to check in at least every few days, just to make sure nobody is moving.

but overall what happens doesn't usually bother me too much, as long as i can work my way around it. like when diana just plopped her house right in front of my town hall, i freaked out for a bit. then i imagined her being a smirking deer rebel in a leather jacket, and now it doesn't bother me at all

I don't think anything anyone will ever say in this entire thread will top this post.
It's just.
Wow.

marshal is ok but idk if i'll ever get him. stitches and some other popular villager are ok i have flurry, molly, and lolly so i'm not against popular villagers but i think they are quite overrated and they are just like any other villager. julian is hideous though and so are all the rest of the horses.
