A experiment about Marshall, and other popular villagers.

A lot of people like Marshall. I see some people paying around 20-25 million bells for him same as for Stitches, and Julian. So I want to see what kind of people like him. I've never been a huge fan of him, yet a lot of people are. So I want to know what villagers live in your town and your deamies. A lot of people like squirrels and smug animals, Out them together and with a grumpy face, you get a lot of people's dream neighbor. So tell me, would you want Marshall, and please show current villagers and dreamies so I can see if my hypothesis is true. My hypothesis is that, Like Marshall, those same type of people that want him, also want Stitches and Julian, and other popular villagers. Or I can see in your signature unless, you're like me and don't have any art for yours (Don't know how)

erm... i dont think your hypothesis is true. i dont want popular villagers for the sake of being popular????? i want ones that i like. i have a lot of T1s, but i really dislike marshal. i got my T1s because..i uh... like the way they look. o3o; but i dont like marshal, so therefore i do not have him.

idk I think stitches is alright, I'm not that fond of julian, merengue or ankha though lol

edit/ and popularity had nothing to do with why I wanted him, I thought he was cute before I even joined TBT. like I've honestly never met anyone who wanted a villager JUST because they were "popular"

The popular villagers are popular for good reasons.. they are cute!!! (isn't that enough to convince people to like them??)

I want some of those villagers not for the sake of jumping on the bandwagon but because I truly find them to be adorable. Also, some of my popular villagers, such as Merengue & Diana, were initially not on my list of Dreamies but it's just that I happen to get them (through random move-ins and the campsite) and they've really grown on me over time. Now, stitches I love, because he happened to live in my previous town before and I miss seeing his cute little face but I'm not so thrilled about other tier 1s such as Julian (aside from his awesome house decors), Marina & Fang...Besides, I also have less popular villagers too, such as Roscoe, Genji, and Frita, all of which I adore to death XD...so yeah, I can't say I completely agree with your hypothesis

I have Marshal, and my dream villagers are in my signature.
I don't really fit into your hypothesis though ^^; I have two tier 1 villagers, but the majority of the rest are rather unpopular if I remember correctly.
I got Marshal because I think his frown is adorable and fits the smug personality so much, not because he's popular. That infamous Marshal town also made me like him.
Oh, and I personally don't like Stitches nor Julian.

I don't really want popular villagers because they're popular.. It's totally a lame reason, even some people might do that. I personally love Marshal, cause he's adorable male squirrel and I don't even like the other squirrels very much. I didn't like Stitches very much in the beginning, but I fell in love with him after having him in my town c:

T1's are popular for a reason, I think. I mean, generally they are all fairly cute and have cute personalities. I never wanted to be the kind of person who collected "popular villagers," but a lot of my dreamies, it turns out, tend to be the popular T1-3 villagers.

I normally see Marshal closer to 25-30mil whereas Stitches and Julian 10-20mil

I really dislike marshal
He is a freaking plain white squirrel that hits on you and never cleans his house.
I do not see the appeal of him.

However, BOTH Stitches and Julian are dream villagers of mine.
Why?
Julian is unique... he is a freaking blue unicorn.... He is the only unicorn. I'm pretty sure you could make an entirely purple and pink unicorn ((two of my least favorite colors)) and I would still want him.
Stitches? ... I am too obsessed with stuffed animals real life and in game. My husband can buy me a 50 cent stuffed animal over a $500 jewelry piece any day.

Oh... and Stitches and Julian aren't even ranked the "highest" of my dreamies =3... they actually go ::

1. Kabuki
2. Coco
3. Stitches
4. Julian
5. Genji

I have never seen Stitches actually in-game so he may swap places with Coco ((Kabuki will always be my #1 ^-^)) or he may even move down once I see him. Who knows until I finally get the cutie. ^-^

Right, haha. How did these villagers get to be popular if they weren't super likable to begin with?

I bought a 3DS just to get ACNL. I decided I had to get the game+system as soon as I saw Fauna. Deer are my favorite animal, and have been since I was pretty little, so I was excited they were finally being included!
Pecan was in my former game (the GameCube version) and moved out, so I knew I wanted to have her again. The rest of the villagers I hadn't been as attached to/still have them in that town, so I don't need them in acnl.

Roscoe I wanted to move out at first, but his personality grew on me. + He calls me 'princess' and 'sweetheart' now, so that's adorable. I like most of the cat villagers, Ankha included, but Purrl was another original in my town and I love her to bits. C: Snooty personalities tend to be my favorite.

I didn't see what was so great about Marshall until I visited my friend's town! She had him and he was the cutest thing omg I wanted to put him in my pocket and bring him home to Fawnwood. I wish he was a lot less popular so I could buy him from someone; I'm just relying on my campsite at this point. ):<

(Bianca isn't a dreamie, but she's cute. My favorite of the peppy villagers, basically. I might replace her once I have all the PWPs unlocked.)

Hahah I don't think I've ever seen anyone says that. I'd love to see someone admits it!

The question of whether something is liked because it's popular or popular because it's liked is kind of unanswerable, partly because very few people will admit to being influenced by trends because it's considered "uncool", and partly because trends often fluctuate too quickly to measure accurately. I remember that Julian was more popular than Marshal for a while there, and now Julian is seemingly of less interest. Who even knows why?

As for me, I'll be chilling with all the tier 5 cuties, becaue IDGAF about Marshal or Julian. My husband however, does, and has both. More data for you.

Don't all of the villagers within each personality say mostly the same stuff? I think people (like myself) who tend to really like Marshal like that he's a small, cute, seemingly innocuous villager that is actually a smug. I won Julian in a giveaway and frankly I don't like him as much as I expected to. My town currently is all T1-T3 by coincidence, I think.

I'd rather try to have a town almost as original as possible. Having a town full of Tier-1 and 2 villagers is ridiculous because of how many people have the exact same villager in their town. I like to see diversity, not carbon copies of towns.

Yeah, I tend to think that people who go on and on about how much they dislike a popular villager are kinda...protesting too much. But then again, some people get all defensive and butthurt when someone merely says that they don't see the hype about a particular villager, which is just as annoying as "hipsters," imo.

When my husband rolled his town, Beau was one of his starters. Then Marshal moved in via the campsite, and then I procured Julian for him. His town is as "mainstream" as it can get. Yet, his absolute favorite villager is still Tank. So, although anecdotal, I think that is confirmation that tastes are a little more complex than the binary of popular or unpopular.
