A couple of first timer questions?

First: so November has come, and I've been looking forward to collecting the mush furniture series, but no mushrooms have been appearing in my town, other than next to special tree stumps. So I've tried reading wikis, faqs, everything, but I found only vague and contradictory info. Now, I'm a very recent player (started on August), and New Leaf is the first AC game I have, so naturally I'm a bit clueless :<
Some sites say mushroom picking season starts on the 15th, and also I read that mushrooms appear at 8 am, and that villagers pick them up every 15 minutes. I'm.. almost sure that info is incorrect for New Leaf at least.
I figured that maybe the problem is that I already had a bunch of mushrooms that I'm using to decorate my town on the floor (11 mushrooms) so maybe that was the reason, so I put them away in hopes that I get mushrooms tomorrow. I'm wondering what am I doing wrong?

And the second question: so the day after Halloween, I hadn't thrown away some of the prank items (specifically a jack-in-the-box and patched top and pants), but I didn't loose my perfect town status (a jacob's ladder appeared in my town on saturday). So I thought it was posible to keep them without affecting town status, so I put the three things on display in the museum. Today I checked and villagers are complaining about trash! I don't understand. I think maybe the trash items don't affect town status if they are in storage, but they DO affect it if they're on the ground or on display (since they were on storage when the day changed on saturday). I was really hoping I could keep the jack-in-the-box at least because I find it cute, but I'm soconflicted because I also want to maintain perfect town status haha.. T____T
so... any way I could keep it? I'll try putting it in storage again and in hopes that works.

The mushroom thing seems odd to me because I'm having no issues finding/obtaining the Mush Series. Sometimes the mushrooms are pretty tricky to find if you have lots of trees and flowers, so perhaps just looking in all the hidden little spots of your town? ^.^

With the perfect town status, it's judged every morning at 6am. So, on Halloween if you left your items out over night (after 6 am) your town was judged like there was 'trash' on the ground. If you moved them the to museum after 6am on the 1st, your perfect rating won't be back until the next day when the judging is reset. Hope this helped and welcome to the AC community!

In regards to the mushrooms/mush series, you should have started getting them already since I've had a few mushrooms pop up yesterday. If you have a lot of flowers or tress, they're probably hidden from view. That's what happened to mine.

Mmhm. This is what I find weird. Right after I was done collecting the creepy set on the 31st, I put everything away on storage (including the prank items that are considered trash). On the 1st of november, well past 6 am, I still had perfect town status (a jacob's ladder appeared, wich wasn't there on the 31st). On the 1st, I put the trash items in display in the museum. Then today, on the 2nd, well past 6 am too, I asked Isabelle about town status and villagers have complained about trash. I should have lost perfect town status on the 1st, not on the 2nd, which is what I don't understand ;^;
that's what makes me think that if I put the trash items on storage I will get perfect town status again. I'll try that today, and see what happens tomorrow orz

How odd... The only thing I can think off is turnips that you had out on the ground that maybe rotted the next day and are now considered trash. Actually, that might be it since turnips rot on Sundays and the 2nd is a Sunday.

Nope! I sold all turnips last thursday.

You do have to pick up the mushrooms that you had out for decoration, so I think you'll be fine tomorrow. I can't believe that the items in the museum would count against your town status though. Unfortunately, my town is no longer perfect so I can't test the theory

Wilting flowers don't count towards trash, do they? That would be so weird. Honestly, I'm so confused about your town status, it seems like it shouldn't have gone down.

I knowww it's really unfair. What about people who want to do a trash exhibit? blame this game for making even trash items look cute. I'm so heartbroken over this silly toy, I really want to keep it. And I do want to keep my town status as perfect too! I'm so conflicted!

Unless you plan on using them for decorations, they have almost no use. Occasionally you will need them for the Harvest festival, but you don't really need to save them. I just sell them c:

Some of the mushrooms are used in recipes during the Harvest Festival. You might want to check the Thonky Guide ahead of time so you can prepare. Otherwise, you can either use the mushrooms as decoration or sell them.

as the two people above said, you can use them as decorations, or sell them to Reese. Personally I'm collecting them as decoration for my dirt paths in my town, and I also want to collect the mush furniture.

I didn't know about the harvest festival though!

Are you 100% sure it's the Halloween items? It could be any other items you've dropped, for example. If you want to check if it's the Halloween stuff, you don't need to throw it out. Just take it back into storage and check when the status is updated to see if there's been a rating change. If it has, I think you can keep them in your home without affecting the rating.

I'm not as annoyed by "trash" items affecting the rating, as the fact that some PWPs affect the rating. I understand that reasoning for some, but what about items like the tire toy? There aren't many other alternatives if you want to build a full playground/park in your town
