5th Cell is a game developer mostly known for the Scribblenauts series. I've just been thinking about them a lot, because the Drawn to Life series and Super Scribblenauts were some of my favorites as a kid. They just have such a unique way of making games that I love. I eventually joined a Discord in 2018 dedicated to Drawn to Life, and learned about one of their other games, Lock's Quest. I got it and I can safely say it is one of my favorite DS games.

One thing 5th cell does REALLY well is storytelling. All their games seem so simple, but end up having a really fleshed out story (this mostly goes for DtL and Lock's Quest).

As some know, once a new Scribblenauts game was cancelled by their publisher, they had to lay off a bunch of their staff. They reportedly still exist, but haven't really done anything except for changing their Twitter banner with a silhouetted image and words that read "Early 2018." (RIP that lol)

So, does anyone else have any memories of 5th Cell? While their fate is sad, it's cool that there's a small collection of people keeping their spirit alive. Who knows, it's a new year, maybe they'll bounce back in some way.

At first I was all "but aren't they making a sequel to that game?", but I then realized I was thinking about Pychonauts haha.

Anyhow, those games are great, I'd love to see more from them too. Hopefully they're just taking more time to make it the best it can be, whatever they're working on.

I'll be honest, I thought this was some weird DBZ game thing

That's my hope! They're LinkedIn says they're still around, but it seems all communication has been lost otherwise, like their Twitter not being active for a number of years.

I loved the Scribblenauts games when I was younger. I have the first 2 for Nintendo DS and my brother got Scibblenauts Unlimited on Steam. I don't have Scribblenauts Unmasked or Scribblenauts Showdown yet, and I'm not really sure if I would like Showdown as much since it's more of a party game (Plus I think it was made after the employees got laid off??).
Oh, and I finally got Drawn to Life a year or two ago. Now I need to remember to look for the sequel.

I wouldn't recommend Scribblenauts Showdown, no one involved in the originals was on the team, I think. Also, I've just heard it isn't great.
DTL 2 is great! I recommend.

I played Drawn to Life and Scribblenauts! For Drawn to life I made a Stickman (he has a :) face) with a green-striped scarf. His name was Me-Q/Meenq, which is a misspelling of my name. My older sister tried to play the game first (she made a... purple thing) and tried to name it Meena but accidently pressed "q". I really like the name Me-Q ever since that day. I never forgot that memory.

I used to love Scribblenauts back in the day!! I remember it being a whole spread in the Nintendo magazine I used to buy as a kid one month and being blown away by it -- my little brain couldn't believe u could just type any word in and get it.

Totally forgot about it actually, this thread is kinda making me want to dig it out and play it again lmao

That's awesome! Cool that DtL helped inspire a screen-name.

Lol i remember being blown away as well. Then there were some super random things put in there, like how you could spawn a Xenomorph from Alien
