So, I finally bought an extended life battery for my 3DS last month. Because I was tired of my battery lasting only a handful of hours and I had a 10 hour flight to Japan coming up. And all of the streetpassing, because Japan.
It was a tossup between a 5000mAh battery and the Nyko PowerPak, but after a lot of researching, I ended up going with the 5000mAh battery in the end. Only $21 and it lasts a loooooot longer. Also, free shipping on Amazon.
I was kind of worried about the weight difference, since I have small hands and bad wrists, but after using it and carrying it everywhere ever for the 2 weeks I was in Japan, it's totally worth it! It makes the console significantly heavier than it was before, a jump from about 235 grams to 335 grams. It's almost the same exact weight as a 3DSXL, actually. It makes the console a lot fatter, too, but it still fits comfortably in the front pocket of my shorts (makes a nice, pronounced rectangle there, too, but so does everyone else's phone), and also in my cargo pants.
But the battery life. It took that 10 hour flight like it was nothing. A few train rides ranging between an hour and 3 hours was a stroll in the park. And I would start playing in the mornings (around 6AM) before we would go out for the day, leave it on in sleep mode for the entirety of the outing, check streetpasses every few minutes to an hour depending on where we were, and then turn it off when we got back to the hotel at like 9 or 10pm every night.
It lasted about 5 days like this before finally dropping one bar. Not dropping to one bar. Just dropping one bar. It took 8 days for it to finally switch to red, and so I finally charged it.
I'm super excited for no more dead 3DS battery while I'm on the bus or at the mall, and since I'm completely capable of playing Animal Crossing or Pokemon for 8+ hours at a time, it'll be nice not to have to go running for my charger every time I look down and the light is suddenly blinking red.
So. Anyone else have an extended battery of some sort (5000mAh, Mugen, Nyko, or otherwise) for their 3DS/3DSXL? What kind do you have and how is the battery life?
