3ds Cartridge Slot location

ds had a cartridge slot on the bottom for gameboy games...

I never played the ds, but I'm glad I didn't in that case. The last handheld I had before I got the 3ds was the Gameboy Advance.
Was it the same sort of cartridge technology, though? With how easily it pops in and out, I mean? Cause everything before that (I can't speak for the Gameboy SP personally, but I think it had the same cartridge technology and location as its predecessors) never popped out that easily. You had to actually pull it out, and if you drop it, you'd have more of a chance of the battery case popping off as a minor inconvenience than the game popping out (actually, never had the game pop out on me with the GBA and Pocket).

If you played a gba game on a ds or ds lite it was slightly uncomfortable as the cartridge completely stuck out, but I never had to worry about the game sliding out or anything like that.

It's a concern for me, but thankfully it's never happened. Not even while it was in my purse, in a silly protective sleeve I threw together out of scrap fabrics. I mean, it's not bad - I gave it a quilted lining on the inside to make it extra soft. But it's no leather cover, either.

Still, when it's in use in my room, I carefully place it down and pick it up while holding the one side. I set it on my rubber coasters in my bedroom to have that little gap of finger space to pick it up gently, from the side. Every time.
If I do pick it up the way you do, OP, I'm careful to keep my fingers on the hinge, or off to the side a bit, instead of the cartridge itself.
