Speaking as a Brit, its just feels a bit bizarre. Turkeys are for Christmas here not some random date in November (which is what Thanksgiving effectively is in the UK). Harvest Festival at least sounded as if it was in the correct month!

They only called it Turkey Day because it's the Animal Crossing equivalent of the strictly North American Thanksgiving holiday. If they'd called it Thanksgiving then only so many people would want to participate. Same happened with Bunny Day - if they'd called it Easter then only some people would've wanted/been able to participate. And personally I think that the Turkey Day name is adorable.

I liked Harvest Festival better.

Harvest Festival is honoring all the hard work done to bring the harvest. Turkey Day...is just nothing.

Eh, I don't mind the change that much. Although overall, Harvest Festival may would fit better as a name, but Turkey Day isn't so terrible either imo.

They called it Harvest Festival in previous games, which isnt tied to a specific religion or culture. Calling it Turkey day actually ties it to American Thanksgiving more IMO.

Honestly I prefer Harvest Festival, but I understand why they changed it to Turkey Day (I feel like SH islands should be celebrating planting stuff instead of “flowers blooming” anyways).

I prefer Harvest Festival as it just has a nicer ring to it, to me, but that's just a personal preference. It doesn't really matter to me.

I think I liked better “harvest festival” just because turkey day links the event a lot to thanksgiving and not so many people celebrate thanksgiving worldwide.

Just an aside: I find it interesting that, in trying to include both Hemispheres in the celebration, they ended up making the name even more constrictive...

i honestly don’t have much of an opinion on it aha; turkey day is cute but i still find myself referring to it as the harvest festival pretty often 😋

Harvest Festival, Thanksgiving, Turkey Day... I think it's interchangeable in Animal Crossing.

It's okay but I would have preferred just Harvest Festival. To switch the name to Turkey Day to me just seemed like they might as well go all the way and just call it Thanksgiving. I think the Harvest Festival just sounds more inclusive to others who don't celebrate Thanksgiving (or who don't celebrate it in November!).

I understand why some people might think “turkey” in the name is weird but doesn’t it have to do with Franklin being an actual turkey? It’s not like they’d eat actually turkey, since that is a species represented as an NPC. Is they called it Thanksgiving it wouldn’t make sense since only Americans celebrate it. Although I guess Harvest festival might sound a bit more inclusive to people who celebrate thanksgiving I think Turkey Day is something completely different from Thanksgiving, as the ACNH world is different from real life.

Hmm something strange is going on. First in the Halloween Event they never brought back the Halloween themed furniture from past AC games and just called it "Spooky Items" and now Turkey Day for whatever reason they just didn't call it the "Harvest Festival" like in past AC games again. They didn't even bring back the Harvest themed furniture, instead they just gave us "Turkey Day" items. Am I the only one who is noticing this? I get that this game is focused on crafting but still why did they have to change it up?

I think Turkey Day is fine name since it falls in November. Harvest Festival would have been a good name too but that would not make sense for the people in the southern hemisphere. If they moved it to October then there would have been pretty much overshadowed by Halloween.
