Here's a foolproof hybreeding method.
Step one: Plant an X of red flowers in the middle of a garden.
Step two: Outline the X with yellow or white flowers.
Step three: Water only the flowers that you really want to grow.
Step four: Rinse and repeat steps one through three.

Having hybrids of the same type and color is more efficient to breed that certain hybrid. Or plant an X of red hyacinths and outline it with white hyacinths. Also works great with roses, tulips and cosmos.
Some of those combinations won't work. Yellow should never touch yellow or white. White pansies can only breed with white to make hybrids. I would add a few yellow or white tulips to the red ones for hybrid efficiency.
How you lay out your flowers also plays a critical role on breeding hybrids. My first hybrid gardens were made of an "X" of red flowers planted in the middle and outlining them with white or yellow flowers. The next day, I got black, pink and orange hybrids.
