Gameplay.

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is a 3-D first person adventure that takes placed in the famed Kingdom of Hyrule. The controls are quite revolutionary for Nintendo 64. The game introduced the "Z-targeting aspect of battling" which was used in most future games in the series. The "Z-targeting" is when you click Z on the controller, the camera focuses on a nearby enemy, person, or item. When battling, it is a great strategy to always Z-target your enemy.

As your quest progresses, Link's inventory increases at an exponential rate. At the beginning you acquire a sword and shield used in combat with enemies. Later on in Link's journey he can acquire a different type of shield called the Hylian shield. Also, you can get two other swords known as the Master Sword and the Biggoron's Sword. In each dungeon you acquire some type of new item as well such as a Fairy Slingshot or the Bow and Arrow. The most important item in the game is known as the Ocarina of Time which allows Link to play mystical songs that have magical powers! Some items in the game are optional such as the Ice and Fire Arrows. You get the Ice Arrows for completing Gerudo's Training Ground and the Fire Arrows for completing a mini-side quest.

As in most Zelda games, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time requires you to progress through seven dungeons and then a master dungeon, in this case, Ganon's Castle. In each Dungeon, Link must solve a wide array of puzzles such as trying to find the Boss Key which will take him to an area where he must fight a tougher opponent then what he usually has fought. In a various throughout the dungeon Link will find himself a new idea that will help him in his boss battle. Note that not all dungeons have a boss key but only the last four and the master dungeon have them.

Graphics

The graphics in The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time are quite good but nine years later, they look dated. It was natural for a Nintendo 64 game to have blocky graphics, but now in time, it's not normal. There isn't a whole lot of detail in the graphics compared to The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess.

Sound

Music plays a very important role in The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time because the game is named after a musical instrument, the Ocarina of Time. The Ocarina of Time plays a very important role in the game so understanding it's abilities is key in beating the game. Sometimes when Link plays the Ocarina of Time, it helps him solve various puzzles, access certain areas, and discover new things such as items and treasure. However, for most of these things to happen a certain song must be played. The song varies from place to place.

The background music in the game was beautiful to me. I loved The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time for many reasons but this was the reason I liked to it most. From the depths of the Great Deku Tree, to the mysterious Bottom of the Well, the game makes you feel like your there. The game definitely succeeds in bringing beautiful pieces of music in the game and combining them with there environments.

Sound: 10/10

Story

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time has a very epic story and one of the best stories of all time. I can always remember the battle with Ganon at the very end of the game then Zelda calls upon the six sages to lock Ganon away in the Sacred Realm. It was and still is my fondest moment ever of playing a Zelda game. Other things I remember quite clearly was the boss battle with Volvagia in the Fire Temple. Hitting her over the head with the Megaton Hammer is just quite humourous to me.

The story in The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is one day, Link has a dream about standing in front of a castle on a dark and stormy night. He immediately notices a girl on a horse with another person. While Link is sleeping, the Great Deku Tree summons a fairy known as Navi, and reveals to her that he has been cursed and is gradually dieing and that she must guide Link through a journey around Hyrule. Navi runs to Links home and awakens him as quickly as possible and brings him to the guardian of Kokiri Forest, the Great Deku Tree but on the way there a fellow native of the forest, Mido, won't let him pass until he is fully equiped with a sword and a shield. Link buys a shield in a local store and finds a sword in a maze like place. When they finally get past Mido, and arrives at the Great Deku Tree, he sends Link on a mission to go inside of him and find and destroy parasitic arachnid known as Gohma. Link enters the Great Deku Tree and eliminates the parasitic arachnid. When Link steps into a portal after defeating her, he arrives outside the Great Deku Tree. Although the curse is broken, the Great Deku Tree reveals that he was doomed before Link even stepped foot inside him. He tells Link of a man in black armor who cast the dreadful curse on him and how this man seeks the Triforce. He also gives Link the spiritual stone of the forest known as the Kokiri Emerald and tells Link that he must go see Princess Zelda in Hyrule Castle. The Great Deku Tree then dies and Link leaves the forest but on the way he meets a friend he had in the forest known as Saria. Saria gives Link an Fairy Ocarina, and wishes him luck on his way to the castle. Thus an adventure begins.

Story: 10/10
