Question about the gamecube memory card

Hiya,
I wanted to play my animal crossing gamecube version, but everytime it says my gamecube memory card is full, I am doing it via a wii and I do not know how to delete the data of the memory card so I can play animal crossing.
This game card was not original mine, got it at a shop so no idea whats on there. Would i need to delete it via a gamecube console?
