I might have enough random blue and orange pansies to breed the special orange ones needed for the purple ones. I'm wondering if I've been lining up different flower combinations correctly. I did try breeding blue roses unsuccessfully before.

Right now I'm trying:

[orange][fertilizer][orange]

Your flower layout seems optimal to me. I used a diamond pattern just like that to breed my flowers. Just make sure to move any special orange pansies that you get as a result to a separate location so you don't get them confused with your regular orange pansies.

For the record, once I actively started trying for purple pansies, I got them pretty easily. But even using the same technique for blue roses, it took me months and months to just get one. I ended up buying a breeding pair of blue roses on this site because blue roses were that much harder to breed.

Good luck!
